President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today, Saturday, from President Nicos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus.

Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that the call addressed developments in the Middle East, most notably the agreement reached in Sharm el-Sheikh to cease the war in the Gaza Strip. The Cypriot president expressed his country's full welcome of the agreement, affirming Cyprus' support for its implementation and praising the vital role played by Egypt and the personal efforts of the president in facilitating its conclusion.

The official spokesman explained that President Sisi reviewed with the Cypriot president the most important aspects and details of the agreement, stressing its importance in stopping the war, releasing hostages and detainees, securing the entry of humanitarian aid, and initiating the reconstruction process of the Gaza Strip. President Sisi also stressed the necessity of fully implementing the provisions of the agreement, noting that Egypt has made continuous efforts over the past two years, in coordination with the State of Qatar and the United States of America, to end the war and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people.

In this context, President Sisi invited the Cypriot president to participate in the celebration to be held in Egypt marking the signing of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

The official spokesman noted that President Sisi stressed the need to deploy international forces in the Gaza Strip, as well as the importance of granting international legitimacy to the agreement reached through the Security Council. The two presidents also emphasized the need to begin the immediate reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip, with President Sisi indicating Egypt's intention to host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction, a move welcomed by the Cypriot president.

The official spokesperson added that the call also addressed the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus, with the two presidents discussing ways to enhance cooperation between the two friendly countries in the political, trade, and investment fields.

The two presidents agreed to build on the outcomes of their summit in January 2025, contributing to expanding cooperation in tourism, construction, agriculture, and other areas of mutual interest. In the same context, the Cypriot president affirmed his country's continued support for Egypt's positions within the European Union.
