"No diplomatic mission should ever be the target of [strikes]," EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas said on the "X" platform."In response, we are summoning the Russian ambassador to Brussels."
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that two rockets exploded within 20 seconds of each other on Thursday evening, 50 meters from the EU mission in Kiev.
In connection with the Russian attack on Kiev, the British Foreign Office also summons the Russian ambassador.
Ambassador Andrei Kelin is expected to meet with British foreign policy officials, not deputy ministers or higher-ranking officials, the BBC reports.
After the attack in Kiev, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his condolences to the victims.
"[Russian dictator Vladimir] Putin is killing children and civilians and destroying hopes for peace. This bloodshed must end," the prime minister said on the "X" platform.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a statement on social media that"these Russian missiles and drones today are a clear response to everyone in the world who has been calling for a ceasefire and real diplomacy for weeks and months."
"Russia chooses ballistics over the negotiating table. It chooses the continuation of the killings over the end of the war," the president said.
"And this means that Russia is still not afraid of the consequences. Russia is still taking advantage of the fact that at least part of the world is turning a blind eye to the killed children and looking for excuses for Putin," Zelensky emphasized.
