Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry has said that Singapore will continue to be subject to a 10 per cent tariff on trade with the United States.
This comes in light of the Jul. 31 executive order by U.S. President Donald Trump, which laid out the modified tariff rates for many of the U.S.’s trading partners.
The executive order did not specifically mention Singapore, but did say that the baseline tariff rate for countries with which the U.S. had a trade surplus would remain at 10 per cent, as announced on Trump’s Apr. 2 “Liberation Day”.
A spokesperson for Singapore’s MTI, responding to queries by Mothership, has said that “Singapore will continue to be subject to a 10 per cent tariff.”
“MTI has confirmed this understanding with the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.”
“We are closely monitoring developments and will seek clarification from our U.S. counterparts as necessary.”
