Sky News cited diplomatic sources in the European Union (EU) as saying that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had discussed the possibility of the trip with key European leaders - French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni.

All four politicians are coordinating among themselves to prepare for a joint meeting with Trump in Washington.

According to Sky News, the visit of European leaders to the US is expected to take place early next week, most likely on Tuesday, if the White House confirms the date.

The main issues to be discussed are expected to be Ukraine and the new US approach to European security.

Washington has proposed a plan to end the war in Ukraine that appears to be based largely on Russian demands. It includes not only the retention of occupied territories under Russian control, but also Ukraine's commitment not to join NATO, not to expand the alliance and Russia's return to the G8, according to a draft of the plan obtained by AFP.
