Eclipses of this kind are astronomical phenomena in which the eclipsed object (the Moon) enters the Earth's shadow cone, the latter interposing itself between the Sun and the Moon.
The eclipse will be visible from across the country from early evening, with the Moon rising already partially covered by the Earth's shadow.
The astronomical phenomenon will last a total of over five hours, and the totality phase will last for 82 minutes, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:52 p.m. The eclipse's maximum is at 9:11 p.m.
During the totality phase, the color of the Moon takes on a spectacular reddish hue, given by the sun's rays that still reach the Moon through the Earth's atmosphere, popularly known as the"Blood Moon".
The eclipse will be visible not only from Romania, but also from most of Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and Antarctica. According to astronomers, approximately 71% of the world's population will fully or partially observe the spectacular event.
The eclipse of September 7, 2025 is part of the Saros 128 series, being the 41st in a series of 71 and the 11th of the total type.
Experts recommend observing from a location with a clear eastern and southeastern horizon to catch all phases of the Moonrise. Binoculars or a telescope with a wide field of view can enhance the visual experience.
