Actor and director Robert Redford has died. He was 89 years old.

The death was confirmed by Cindi Berger, CEO of PR firm Rogers & Cowan PMK, according to the newspaper.

The cause of death is not yet known.

Redford made his acting debut back in 1961. He was known for films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, and All the President's Men.

During his career, he has won numerous awards, including six Golden Globes and a BAFTA. In 1980, he won the Academy Award for Best Director for Ordinary People.

In 2018, he revealed that he would retire as an actor after the film The Old Man & the Gun.

- You should never say never, but I have concluded that this is probably the end of my acting career, he said at the time.

Trump in Mourning

US President Donald Trump is in mourning, according to Sky News.

To the news that Redford died at home with his family, Trump said:

- Well, that's a nice way to go.

"Robert Redford was fantastic. He had a number of years where there was no one better," he added, according to the newspaper.

Trump was also asked which movies were his favorite.

- There are a lot of them. He made seven or eight fantastic films. There was a period when he was the hottest.

Redford had previously been critical of Trump, comparing his first administration to a monarchy in disguise, the newspaper reports.
