During the meeting of the National Commission for Guarantees of Electoral Processes held at the Casa de Nariño, President Gustavo Petro revealed information that surprised everyone in attendance.
The president stated that the Democratic Center presidential candidate was supposed to have seven people in his security detail, but that, at the time of the attack, only three were present.
For that reason, he reiterated that a thorough investigation must be conducted into the decisions made in the congressman's security detail because, Petro said, something strange happened.
"I've found out who made the decisions regarding the security structure, whether it was the UNP (National Protection Unit) or the Police. What they're saying so far is that they were in charge of the Police. The opposition distrusts the Government, but the Police are heavily infiltrated," he said.
According to President Petro, these infiltrations are linked to the so-called Drug Trafficking Junta."A state official attends the meetings of the drug trafficking junta in Bogotá, whose name we have yet to identify," he added.

The president also revealed that Miguel Uribe Turbay's son had been the victim of surveillance and that all this information is being investigated to determine the masterminds behind it.
At that meeting, he reiterated that the security of all opposition members will be reinforced and that they will have all the necessary guarantees ahead of the 2026 elections.
He said that several of his ministers have received threats and that even one of his daughters was recently intimidated.
At the meeting held at the Casa de Nariño, he asked all sectors to"understand" that they must act "with a cool head" in situations like these in order to get to the truth and determine what really happened.

Although the meeting was held at the Casa de Nariño, most political parties declined to participate in the meeting convened by President Gustavo Petro and Interior Minister Armando Benedetti.
On the contrary, they met with the president of the Senate, Efraín Cepeda, and issued a statement.
"The undersigned parties welcome the Democratic Center's request to suspend the Senate's deliberations in solidarity with Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, in light of the atrocious attack on him," they stated.
