The World's Current Take

Critical of Trump/Putin Summit

Neutral/Factual Reporting

"President Trump (...) told European leaders that he supports a plan to end the war in Ukraine by handing over unoccupied territory to the Russian occupiers, rather than trying to achieve a ceasefire," the NYT writes.

It is reported that V. Zelensky and other European leaders who participated in the conversation strongly spoke out against the transfer of vacant lands, as they contain important defensive lines and abundant mineral deposits.

According to the NYT, Trump will discuss the plan with the Ukrainian president at the White House on Monday. European leaders have also been invited to join, the publication's sources said.

According to sources, during his conversation with the Europeans, Trump did not mention the introduction of any new sanctions against Russia.

The only positive aspect was that, according to Trump, Putin supposedly agreed that Ukraine could receive strong security guarantees after the war. However, these guarantees would not be tied to NATO. Trump also added to the Europeans that the US military could help ensure these guarantees.

As UNIAN reported, Kyiv still does not understand what Trump and Putin agreed on during their meeting in Alaska. Zelensky is likely to demand explanations from Trump during their meeting on Monday.

Meanwhile, many observers see the results of the Alaskan meeting as an unequivocal victory for Putin: he made no concessions and received another postponement of US sanctions. Not to mention the propaganda benefit of the dictator being honorably received on US territory.
