This Wednesday, August 13, Julio César Triana, a representative of the Cambio Radical Chamber, reported that he was the victim of an attack while traveling on the highway in the department of Huila.

For that reason, President Gustavo Petro spoke out about what happened, regretting the incident and revealing that he had given specific orders for the congressman to be removed from that area of the country.

"A helicopter has been sent for the evacuation of Congressman Julio César Triana and the Army is in combat with the perpetrators of the attack," reported Petro.

He also stated that dissident groups under the command of Iván Mordisco are operating in the area where the attack on the congressman took place.

For his part, the Minister of the Interior, Armando Benedetti, also referred to this attack and announced that this Thursday he summoned the"Committee for the Coordination and Recommendation of Protection Measures in the Electoral Process (CORMPE), with the presence of the director of the @PoliciaColombia, the director of the @UNPColombia, Military Forces, @mindefensa, among others, to analyze and take the necessary measures for the case and preventive measures for others," stated the head of the political portfolio.

After the attack, the Cambio Radical congressman publicly denounced the attack on his social media accounts and showed the state of the vehicle he was traveling in.

"I want to tell everyone that we're in the vehicle. We've just been attacked. We've just been shot at with a rifle and a pistol, leaving La Plata. I'm with the police and the Nationalist Party (UNP). I want to inform you that we still haven't received support from the police or the army. We're approaching a town called Paicol. The road is completely deserted. We've been hit several times. We're asking for support from the security forces," the congressman said.

Cambio Radical, the group to which Triana belongs, emphasized the regrettable fact that this attack occurred on the very day that the funeral of Senator and pre-candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, who died after an attack on him two months ago, was brought forward."We don't want this tragic news to become part of the country's daily routine," they requested.

They also criticized the government for promising "total peace," but for failing to address the threats and failing to comment on these events.
