WASHINGTON DC, KOMPAS.com - The President of the United States (US) expressed his anger at the BRICS group in his upload on the social media platform Truth Social on Sunday (6/7/2025).

Trump expressed his anger after BRICS issued a joint statement condemning import tariffs at a summit in Brazil on Sunday.

Trump threatened back by vowing to impose additional tariffs of 10 percent on BRICS members.

"Any country that supports the BRICS Anti-American policies will be subject to an additional 10 percent tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy," Trump wrote.

If Trump is serious about his threat, Indonesia as a new member of BRICS could be hit by these additional tariffs.

To date, BRICS members number 11 countries consisting of China, Russia, India, Brazil, Iran, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Indonesia.

Previously, leaders of the 11 BRICS member states voiced concerns that import tariffs risked harming the global economy.

These concerns were expressed in a joint statement between the leaders of the BRICS countries, as reported by AFP.

The joint statement did not mention the US or Trump, but the implication was that it was a condemnation of"Uncle Sam's country."

They voiced serious concerns about the emergence of unilateral tariffs and non-tariff measures, warning that they were illegal and arbitrary.

In April, Trump threatened to impose high tariffs on imports. But he suddenly offered a reprieve under pressure.

Trump then warned that the US could reimpose unilateral levies unless they reach a"deal" by August 1.

BRICS said the import tariff measures violated world trade rules.

These efforts are also seen as threatening to reduce global trade and affect the prospects for global economic development.
