“A serious scandal has shaken Hungarian public life. The personal data of 200,000 of our compatriots was leaked to the internet without their consent. We now know for sure that this data was collected by the Tisza Party,” Viktor Orbán said in a video uploaded to Facebook about the alleged Tisza data leak.
The prime minister convened a meeting of the government members responsible for national security, with whom, after analyzing the database, they determined that “Ukrainian individuals also participated in the handling of the data.” According to Orbán, the data falling into Ukrainian hands poses a serious national security risk, and he therefore ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.
According to Péter Magyar, Orbán took the joke too far with the video. “So, if I understand correctly, you are colluding with foreign services to hack the TISZA Party application, as a result of which the personal data of many Hungarians is made public, and then you order a national security investigation… aha. By the way, when the hackers of the Russian secret service were roaming around the servers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and stealing the most sensitive data, why wasn’t there a national security investigation? Don’t bother, the question is poetic…”
The pro-government Magyar Nemzet wrote on Sunday that a database with the names, email addresses and other data of two hundred thousand people was made public over the weekend. According to the paper, the data was leaked from the Tisza Világ application. Péter Magyar responded to this by saying that “the Tisza Világ application has been attacked by international hackers since its launch, who are obviously behind the Russian services.” According to the chairman of the Tisza Party, they cannot expect protection from the authorities and the naming and holding accountable of those truly responsible.
The reliability of the application is a particularly topical issue now, because according to previous plans, the final decision in the internal competition of Tisza candidates in individual constituencies will be made by the party's supporters, through the Tisza Világ application. According to Magyar, the aim of the entire attack is to stall Tisza's candidate nomination process. But Tisza will not let this happen, it will see the process through, because they have also prepared plans B and C.
