A curfew has been imposed in the central areas of Los Angeles. As the city's mayor Karen Bass reported on the social network X, the decision was made to stop the bad guys who are taking advantage of the president's chaotic escalation.
The restriction is in effect from 20:00 on June 10 to 06:00 on June 11 local time (from 06:00 to 16:00 Moscow time on June 11), The Washington Post reports.
If you do not live or work in downtown Los Angeles, avoid the area, Bass warned, stressing that violators will be arrested and prosecuted.
Los Angeles Engulfed in Mass Riots
Mass protests erupted in Los Angeles on June 6. Protesters demonstrated against new federal immigration laws initiated by the Trump administration. The wave of discontent was caused by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids on workplaces. They detained 212 illegal immigrants, including the leader of the local service workers union, David Wert. According to ICE, most of them had criminal records. After two days of protests, the Trump administration sent 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles for the first time since 1965 without a request from the governor.
On June 10, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced a lawsuit against Trump, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and the Pentagon over the deployment of National Guard troops. California demanded an end to the illegal deployment of troops in the county and the return of the state National Guard to the command of Governor Newsom. The American leader stated that if he had not ordered the National Guard to be sent to Los Angeles to suppress the riots, the city would have been completely destroyed.
