The summit has ended. As previously agreed, the declaration was unanimously confirmed, with the main emphasis being on achieving defense spending of 5% of the GDP of each member state by 2035. This was stated by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov after the NATO summit in The Hague.
In his words, 3.5% for actual defense spending and 1.5% for investment spending, technologies, dual-purpose infrastructure and others.
"There are no annual tasks. The goal is to be achieved by the 35th year. Bulgaria confirms this commitment," Zhelyazkov pointed out.
According to him, the opportunities for us are not just budgetary, but also the use of the"Safe" instrument by 2030, which will involve significant investments in our defense capabilities."The important thing for NATO is to expand defense capabilities in order to refrain from aggressive behavior towards the Alliance."
He is categorical that we will purposefully invest in this direction. Regarding the"Safe" mechanism, the Prime Minister said that"we invest now, we pay later".
A National Defense Investment Plan is to be prepared and proposed for approval.
