Ten minutes before the official announcement, the Maria Corina Matsado was informed that it is the this year's Nobel Peace Prize winner.

The director of the Norwegian Institute, Christian Berg Harpviken , called her by phone in the middle of the night, surprising her.

"I called you to inform you that it will soon be announced that you will receive the Nobel Peace Prize," he told her, moved.

Machado, upon hearing the news, responded repeatedly Oh my God! and added: I have no words. Thank you. I hope you understand that it is a movement of the whole society. I don't know if I deserve it. I am just one person in the movement.

"You certainly deserve it," Harpviken replied, explaining that in a few minutes her award and the reasons for her selection would be officially announced.

It is an honor. I am grateful. We have not reached where we want to be, but we are working hard to achieve it. It is the greatest recognition for our people who are fighting. Thank you very much. It will take me a while to realize what you told me. It is recognition for the people of Venezuela, said Machado, with the Norwegian official responding to her: It is recognition for you too.

In her message after the award, Machado wrote to X : This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is an impetus to complete our mission: to conquer Freedom. We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the people of Latin America and the democratic countries of the world, as our main allies in achieving Freedom and Democracy. I dedicate this award to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump, for his decisive support in our struggle.
