Ten minutes before the official announcement, the Maria Corina Matsado was informed that it is the this year's Nobel Peace Prize winner.

The director of the Norwegian Institute, Christian Berg Harpviken , called her by phone in the middle of the night, surprising her.

"I called you to inform you that it will soon be announced that you will receive the Nobel Peace Prize," he told her, moved.

Machado, upon hearing the news, responded repeatedly Oh my God! and added: I have no words. Thank you. I hope you understand that it is a movement of the whole society. I don't know if I deserve it. I am just one person in the movement.

"You certainly deserve it," Harpviken replied, explaining that in a few minutes her award and the reasons for her selection would be officially announced.

It is an honor. I am grateful. We have not reached where we want to be, but we are working hard to achieve it. It is the greatest recognition for our people who are fighting. Thank you very much. I dedicate this award to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump, for his decisive support in our struggle.
