Víctor Mosquera, lawyer for Senator Miguel Uribe and the Democratic Center, denounced this Wednesday before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) the interference of the government of Gustavo Petro in the investigation being carried out into the attack against the congressman and the stigmatization that members of this group have been suffering.
Mosquera also revealed that he has scheduled meetings with the U.S. Departments of State and Justice and that he hopes these agencies"take measures" to safeguard the rights of the senator and his political party.

"We are very concerned about the interference of the National Government in the investigations. The national Government, through the president, the ministers, and state agents, has been transmitting to the public information that has not been corroborated by the Attorney General's Office, in which they point to certain groups outside the law (as possible perpetrators)," said Mosquera after his meeting in Washington with representatives of the IACHR.
According to Mosquera, the goal of the interference would be to divert an investigation that should be conducted solely and independently by the Prosecutor's Office.
" We are requesting that the Colombian State refrain from continuing to develop a campaign that would lead to identifying who is responsible," said the lawyer who traveled to Washington to follow up and present new information regarding the request for precautionary measures that were requested for the senator and his family in the past.

According to Mosquera, the CDIH was asked to extend these measures to the Democratic Center party, given the atmosphere of persecution that, he says, exists in the run-up to the 2026 presidential elections in Colombia.
Mosquera submitted a series of reports to the IACHR documenting the stigmatization campaign they have been suffering and asked the organization to pressure the State to charge those responsible for the attack with terrorism.
According to the lawyer, the IACHR could make a decision on the precautionary measures within the next 15 days.
"The State Department is fully aware of all the statements made by the national government, not only by the President, but also by his senior officials, regarding stigmatizing and hate speech," Mosquera explained.

"We hope the State Department takes action regarding this situation, because the truth is that before, the day before the attack, the President of the Republic was pointing to presidential candidate and Senator Miguel Uribe as responsible for the historic violence, as if this were something that could be done in Colombia. These words are regrettable, and to date, we have not even received a public apology from President Petro," Mosquera added after confirming meetings with this agency.
According to the lawyer, they will also speak with the IACHR and institutions in Washington about the recent conviction against former President Álvaro Uribe, a fact that was openly criticized by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
