"If energy prices go down enough, Putin will stop killing people," Trump said in an interview with CNBC."If energy prices go down another ten dollars a barrel, he won't have a choice because his economy is in ruins," the US president added.
Trump also accused India of supporting Russia's offensive in Ukraine during the conversation."They're supporting the war machine, and if they're planning to do that, I'm not going to be happy," the US president said. The problem with India is that its tariffs are too high, Trump also said, but he did not specify how much he planned to increase tariffs on imports from India.
Moscow is registering the United States' threats against India over its purchase of Russian oil, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier today, adding that he does not consider the tariffs legitimate, Russian state news agency TASS reported. Trump announced his intention to raise tariffs on imports from India on Monday on the social network Truth Social.
India, according to Trump, is buying significant volumes of Russian oil, which it resells at high profits on the open market, helping to finance the war in Ukraine. Trump has previously criticized India for buying Russian oil and imposed a 25 percent tariff on goods from the Asian country.

Oil and gas are among the main exports of the Russian economy. India has significantly increased its purchases of Russian oil since the start of the wider Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Russia now accounts for more than a third of India's oil imports - up from less than one percent before the war in Ukraine. India imports more than two million barrels of oil per day and is the second largest importer of Russian oil after China.
