US President Donald Trump has opposed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's participation in a meeting in Alaska, fearing it would disrupt negotiations, The Wall Street Journal reports.

As the publication notes, European officials initially sought to have them directly represented at the Alaska meeting. Not only Zelensky, but also NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte or another European leader were proposed as candidates.

However, after a phone call between German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Trump, the Europeans dropped this demand and publicly called on Zelensky to participate in negotiations with Putin, The Wall Street Journal reports.

"According to people familiar with the conversation, Trump expressed concern that Zelensky's participation at the very beginning could derail the negotiations," the publication notes.

At the same time, according to German officials who organized the conference, Trump agreed that after his meeting with Putin, he would first brief Zelensky, and then the European leaders who attended the meeting on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the situation in the Dobropil sector in the Donbas region, where Russian forces made rapid progress the day before, is stabilizing, said Andriy Kovalev, spokesman for the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

He clarified that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are taking all necessary measures to identify and destroy the groups of invaders.

The representative noted that 151 occupiers were eliminated in this sector, more than 70 Russians were wounded. In addition, during this period, the corps soldiers took 8 occupiers prisoner.

"Soldiers of the Ukrainian Defense Forces are continuing search operations in their area of responsibility. The situation is stabilizing," he added.
