SUBANG: Thailand Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul arrived in Malaysia on Saturday Night (Oct 25) to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, to be held from Oct 26 to 28 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The special aircraft carrying Anutin and his delegation landed at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Base here at 9.24pm, where they were received by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Anutin then inspected a guard of honour mounted by two officers and 24 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment, led by Capt Mohd Masrur Hidayat Masri.

Earlier, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived at the same airbase at 9pm and was also welcomed by Khaled.

Prabowo likewise inspected a guard of honour mounted by officers and personnel from the same battalion.

On the sidelines of the summit on Sunday (Oct 26), Anutin was scheduled to sign a ceasefire agreement with Cambodia.

United States President Donald Trump was set to witness the signing of the broader ceasefire deal after he helped broker an end to a five-day border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia in July.

Anutin was expected to return to Bangkok soon after the signing ceremony, following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, on Friday evening (Oct 24).

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn has instructed the Bureau of the Royal Household to organise Her Majesty's royal funeral with the highest honours in accordance with royal tradition.

This year, Malaysia holds the Asean Chairmanship under the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability', reflecting its commitment to fostering a united, resilient and forward-looking Asean Community.

It marks the fifth time Malaysia has assumed the Asean Chair since the bloc's establishment in 1967, following its previous chairmanships in 2015, 2005, 1997 and 1977.

The 47th Asean Summit gathered leaders of all 10 member states as well as key dialogue partners including the United States, China, Japan and South Africa. – Bernama
