President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Independence Day addressed Ukrainians and congratulated them on the holiday. The corresponding address of the head of state on Independence Square in Kyiv was published in his Telegram .
"We are building a Ukraine that will have sufficient strength and power to live in security and peace," he said.
According to the president, Ukraine believes that it will be able to achieve peace throughout its land.
"Ukraine is capable of this. Because Ukraine has character. Stone-like endurance, a gaze that we do not look away, and hands burned by fire and time, but strong. Hands that hold a shield and protect their own," Zelenskyy noted.
He emphasized that today independence is tempered on the battlefield, independence closes the sky every night, it saves lives in hospitals, it puts out fires, it teaches.
"Independence does not sleep around the clock, working at defense enterprises, because it is so important that our soldiers have everything, that independence has everything to protect itself... When we hear from the enemy every day:"There is no such state, there is no such nation." And when we prove the opposite every day. We prove that Ukrainians exist, and Ukrainians will be on this land, on this square, where in a hundred years the next generations will stand and in a hundred years they will celebrate the Independence Day of Ukraine here," Zelensky said.
In addition, he emphasized that Ukraine does not wait for gestures of goodwill, but has its own will to implement what we need.
"What our future will be is up to us alone. And the world knows this, the world respects this, respects Ukraine, perceives it as an equal... Today, both the US and Europe agree: Ukraine has not yet won, but it will definitely not lose. Ukraine has won its independence," the head of state said.
Independence Day of Ukraine
As UNIAN reported, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky congratulated Ukrainians on 34th anniversary of the restoration of the Independence of our state. According to him, we celebrate this day in battle with the eternal enemy."We have been fighting for our freedom for the twelfth year. We have been repelling a full-scale invasion for the fourth year. The Ukrainian people will never surrender and will not give up their Independence. Today we continue the great work of the Ukrainian Heroes of the past, who won an independent Ukraine with sweat and blood," Syrsky emphasized.
According to the Commander-in-Chief, independence is not granted, it is fought for and asserted, because it is a matter of the strong.
