In a joint statement, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said they"make it clear that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon" and support Israel's security.

The leaders urge Iran to “engage in negotiations” with the aim of reaching an agreement that “addresses all concerns related to its nuclear program.” “We stand ready to contribute to this goal in coordination with all parties,” they state.

On Sunday, in a joint statement following a meeting of OIC foreign ministers in Istanbul, the 57-member group condemned"Israel's aggression" as well as stressed "the urgent need to stop Israeli attacks and their great concern over this dangerous escalation."

The joint statement, which made no mention of the US bombs against Iran, also urged the international community to take"deterrent measures to stop this aggression and hold Israel accountable for the crimes committed."

16:53 - In a new interview with CBS, Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, said that the United States"is not currently planning any military operations against Iran", reports The Guardian.

Rubio added that"nobody will know for a few days" whether Iran had moved any of its nuclear materials before the strikes.

16:42 - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Fox News that Iran has highly enriched uranium in quantities sufficient to produce at least nine or ten bombs, The Guardian reported.

He added that he was encouraging China to call Iran about its possible decision to close the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the US had no evidence that China was involved.

16:25 - Russia criticizes US attack, claims it will strengthen Iranian regime, writes Reuters.

"Trump, who came as a president of peace, has started a new war for the United States," Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, said on Sunday.

"With this kind of success, Trump won't win the Nobel Peace Prize," he added.

“The Iranian political regime has been preserved and, most likely, strengthened,” Medvedev says. “People are rallying around the spiritual leadership, even those who did not sympathize with it.”

16:16 - Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, added in an interview that"Iran will not play with Trump." Rubio, who also serves as national security adviser, also said that the US remains ready to negotiate with Iran and that the offer is still valid.

16:13 - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in an interview with Fox News that the United States"is not seeking war with Iran".

He added that"the world is safer and more stable than it was" and that if Iran takes retaliatory measures,"it will be the worst mistake it has ever made."

16:00 - The Iranian parliament has reportedly approved the intention to close the Strait of Hormuz, through which almost 20 percent of the world's oil exports flow. The decision is not yet final and the blocking of the key sea route must still be approved by Iran's Security Council, TASR reports, citing Reuters and Iranian state media.

15:53 - US Vice President JD Vance followed up on a statement he had previously given to NBC. He told ABC that the US attack on Iran's nuclear facilities had significantly slowed the development of its nuclear program.

"I don't want to get into sensitive intelligence here, but we know that last night we significantly set back Iran's nuclear program, years or maybe more," he described.

15:49 - The UN Security Council will meet later today at Tehran's request, diplomats have reported.

15:30 - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern over the recent escalation of the conflict.

"We have reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for the early restoration of peace, security and stability in the region," he wrote in a statement on the social network X.

15:25 - Iran said its nuclear knowledge"cannot be destroyed" even after Sunday's US attacks.

“They should know that this industry has roots in our country and the roots of this national industry cannot be destroyed,” Behrouz Kamalvandi, a spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, was quoted by the Tasnim news agency as saying in comments carried by Agence France-Presse, The Guardian reports.

"Of course we have suffered damage, but this is not the first time this industry has suffered damage," he added.

15:20 - New satellite images show the aftermath of yesterday's US strikes on Iran's underground uranium enrichment facility at Fordow. High-resolution images from Maxar Technologies from June 22 show six fresh craters - likely entry points for US munitions - as well as grey dust and debris scattered across the mountainside caused by the attacks.

15:15 - US Vice President JD Vance says the United States is"not at war with Iran."

"We are at war with its nuclear ambitions," he said, adding that the US believed it had"destroyed" Iran's nuclear program.

"We don't want to prolong it or deepen it any further than it already has. We want to end their nuclear program," he told NBC. They want to make a long-term deal with Iran.

Vance also defended himself against some of the criticism directed at Trump, saying it was"not true" that the operation was outside his presidential authority. The vice president added that the US and its allies would now work to"permanently" eliminate Iran's nuclear program.

15:00 - Timeline and summary of the US attack on Iran:

Here is a timeline and summary of the US operation, codenamed Midnight Hammer, as described by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General Dan Caine, at a Pentagon press briefing:

  • A wave of B-2 bombers departed from the United States at midnight Friday/Saturday (approximately 6:00 CEST). The bombers were to be part of a surprise attack.
  • At approximately 17:00 Eastern Standard Time (23:00 CEST), a US submarine launched more than two dozen Tomahawk land-based attack missiles against key ground infrastructure targets in Isfahan.
  • All three Iranian nuclear infrastructure targets were hit between 18:40 and 19:05 Eastern Standard Time (00:40 - 01:05 CEST). That's approximately 2:10 a.m. local time in Iran.
  • According to a map shown at the briefing, the attackers left Iran around 7:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (1:30 a.m. CEST).
  • The U.S. used 75 precision-guided munitions during the operation
  • Iranian ground-to-air security systems did not see the U.S. operation, maintaining an element of surprise throughout the attack
  • All three Iranian targets suffered "extreme damage and destruction"
  • More than 125 U.S. military aircraft participated
  • It is the largest B-2 operational strike in U.S. history

14:45 - Washington has repeatedly called on Tehran to return to the negotiating table, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said at a Pentagon briefing.

"They know exactly what the American position is, what steps they can take to make peace possible, and I hope they will do so," he said.

He added that they are sending both public and private messages to Iran. They acknowledge that anything can happen, but the scope of the attack has been"deliberately limited."

14:43 - Pete Hegseth, US Secretary of Defense, responds to concerns from US war veterans about the possible involvement of the US in"another open war in the Middle East over weapons of mass destruction."

“This is certainly not an open-ended question.” He adds that President Trump has given him a “strong and clear” mission regarding the destruction of Iran’s nuclear capability.

"That's what the Iranian regime needs to understand," he says."As the president said last night - he wants peace, there has to be negotiation."

14:40 - US President Donald Trump was fully committed to the peace process, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth emphasizes. According to the minister, he"gave Iran every option and was met with a negative attitude."

14:38 - US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth responds to media questions that the aim of the attack was not regime change.

"The President authorized a precise operation to neutralize the threats posed to our national interests by Iran's nuclear program and the collective self-defense of our troops and our ally Israel."

14:36 - US forces remain on full alert, adds Air Force General Dan Caine.

The US military, he said, is"fully prepared to respond to any Iranian retaliation," adding that retaliatory measures would be "an incredibly bad decision" on their part.

14:33 - "Final estimates of the damage from the battle will take some time, but initial assessments indicate that all three sites have suffered extremely severe damage and destruction," says Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Air Force general.

14:30 - The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General Dan Caine, provided a description of the attack. According to him, seven B-2 bombers participated in the 18-hour flight to the target area.

When the bombers reached Iranian airspace at approximately 5:00 p.m. local time (10:00 p.m. CET), a U.S. submarine fired"more than two dozen" Tomahawk cruise missiles against "key targets" at the Isfahan nuclear site.

The Tomahawk missile hit Isfahan last, to preserve the “moment of surprise” for the US. “It appears that the Iranian surface-to-air missile systems did not see us,” he says. He adds that the US did not detect any gunfire during the mission or on the way out.

14:25 - The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General Dan Caine, clarified that the operation was top secret and only a few people in Washington knew about it.

"It was a top-secret mission, the timing and nature of which was known to very few people in Washington."

14:20 - US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth thanks all military personnel who participated in yesterday's operations, calling them all"warriors". According to him, every American who participated in the attacks performed"flawless".

The defense minister also praises"our allies in Israel" for the support they provided, adding that the operations required months and weeks of planning.

14:14 - We will respond with force to any retaliation from Iran, warns US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. He stressed that the US president is"seeking peace".

"President Trump said no nuclear weapons (that Iran should not have them, editor's note), he is seeking peace and Iran should take that path," says Hegseth.

Hegseth then read Trump's social media posts from last night, in which he warned that any retaliation to the attacks by Iran would be"much more forceful."

"Iran would be wise to listen to these words, they've said it before and they mean it," Hegseth says.

14:10 - Iran's nuclear ambitions have been"destroyed," US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said at the start of the briefing. He added that the strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities were an"incredible and overwhelming" success. He described the attack as"precision strikes" that were "targeted, strong and clear."

"The operation that President Trump planned was bold and brilliant, showing the world that American deterrence is back," he said. He added that the operation was aimed solely at Iran's nuclear facilities, and not at Iranian troops or civilians.

"Last night, at the direction of President Trump, U.S. Central Command conducted a precision strike in the middle of the night on three nuclear facilities in Iran... with the aim of destroying or severely damaging Iran's nuclear program."

"Many presidents have dreamed of delivering the final blow to Iran's nuclear program, but none have succeeded until President Trump."

13:32 - China strongly condemns the US attacks on Iran, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a post on the social network X.

"The US actions seriously violate the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law and have escalated tensions in the Middle East. China calls on the parties to the conflict, especially Israel, to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible, ensure the safety of civilians, and engage in dialogue and negotiations," the statement said.

The ministry adds that it is ready to cooperate with the international community in restoring peace and stability in the Middle East.

13:27 - Pope Leo XIV called on Sunday for an end to the tragedy of war in response to the United States' attacks on nuclear targets in Iran."Humanity cries out and begs for peace," he said during the regular Sunday Angelus prayer at the Vatican, TASR reports.

"Every member of the international community has a moral responsibility to end the tragedy of war before it becomes an irreparable chasm," the Pope warned, responding to"disturbing news coming from the Middle East." The Pope also called on the world not to forget the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

"In this context, which includes Israel and Palestine, there is a risk of forgetting the daily suffering of the people, especially in Gaza and other territories, where there is an increasing need for adequate humanitarian assistance," Lev warned."Today, more than ever, humanity is crying out and begging for peace," he added.

"War does not solve problems... On the contrary, it multiplies them and causes deep wounds in the history of nations - wounds that take several generations to heal. No military victory can compensate for the pain of a mother, the fear of a child, or the stolen future," Lev warned.

In conclusion, the Pope expressed the hope that the clash of arms would cease."Let diplomacy silence the weapons!... Let nations shape their future through the work of peace, not through violence and bloody conflicts!" concluded Leo XIV.

13:20 - France and the UK will hold a security cabinet meeting in response to the US attack on Iran, The Guardian reports. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will convene the meeting in the Cabinet Office (also known as COBRA) room this afternoon. French President Emmanuel Macron's office announced the call for an emergency meeting of the defence cabinet.

13:12 - Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák (SMER-SD) believes that there was still room for diplomacy in the Middle East conflict."I don't know the details that led the US to decide to deal with it so radically. And it's good that there are as many explanations as possible," Kaliňák responded in a discussion on Markíza television.

According to him, this is not only a security problem, but it could also cause energy problems in Europe, as the conflict could have an extremely large impact on energy prices.

13:09 - Russia strongly condemns attacks on Iran, calls them irresponsible, criticizes the Foreign Ministry.

"The irresponsible decision to expose the territory of a sovereign state to missile and bomb attacks, regardless of the arguments that may be presented to it, grossly violates international law, the UN Charter and UN Security Council resolutions," the ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

"We call for an end to the aggression and for increased efforts to create the conditions for the situation to return to the political and diplomatic path," they added.

13:02 - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told reporters at a press conference that Iran had"broad options" to respond to the attack.

Asked whether Iran was preparing to take retaliatory measures against US bases in the region or considering closing the Strait of Hormuz, he replied:"We have various options available to us, and that's all."

"We never trusted Western countries when we (negotiated) with them, and now there are even more reasons why we should not trust them at all," he continued."Let's wait for our response first. And when the aggression is over, we will decide how to re-engage in diplomacy," he added.

12:55 - The United States' attacks on Iran increase the risk of spreading conflict and instability, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said, according to Reuters. It added that Ankara was deeply concerned about the possible consequences of the attacks.

The ministry said in a statement that it was impossible to allow the conflict to escalate into a wider global war, and called on all parties to act responsibly and immediately end the attacks. It also said that only negotiations can resolve the nuclear dispute between Tehran and Washington.

12:48 - SNS leader and deputy speaker of parliament Andrej Danko believes that the conflict in the Middle East will deepen the security risk for European states. He added that it is only a matter of time before someone comes up with a referendum on withdrawing from NATO.

"I said that it is not yet time to initiate it. But I am convinced that the conflict between Iran and Israel will deepen into a risk to the security of European states. It is very important what position European leaders will take," Danko said in the STVR discussion.

12:35 - Bahrain and Kuwait are bracing for the possibility of the conflict spreading to their territory. Bahrain is home to the US Navy's 5th Fleet and Kuwait has several US bases. Bahrain has urged drivers to avoid major roads, while Kuwait has set up shelters at a ministry complex.

Tehran has previously warned that in the event of an attack by the United States, it could attack American assets in the region, including American military bases.

12:26 -"The image that Robert Fico painted here, that Biden is the president of war and Trump is the president of peace — this image has been destroyed in the past few hours. It was pure propaganda for domestic political purposes," said MP from the Slovakia movement Gábor Grendel in a discussion show on STVR.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the SNS Andrej Danko says that only an individual cannot decide on the resolution of the conflict between Israel and Iran. He alluded to the decision of the United States to destroy Iranian nuclear facilities. Danko believes that states should communicate more within NATO."If the world stands on the decision of an individual, the American president, before the question of World War III, then it is always a problem," says Danko.

12:20 - Saudi Arabia is on high security alert after the attacks, two sources familiar with the situation told Reuters. The Saudi government's media relations office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

12:10 - Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, in response to the United States' nighttime attack on nuclear facilities in Iran, stated that the country's nuclear program is a threat to international security. According to him, the American attack is therefore an understandable effort to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, Fiala wrote on the X platform. Czech Defense Minister Jana Černochová and Foreign Minister Ján Lipavský also expressed similar views, according to the Novinky.cz portal.

11:52 - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said he will fly to Moscow and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

11:45 - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said in a speech that the US would be held accountable for the consequences of its actions, Reuters reports. According to him, Iran strongly condemns the United States' violation of international law.

"The US administration bears sole and full responsibility for the consequences of its actions, including the right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to self-defense," he said."Of course, the door to diplomacy should always remain open. But that is not the case at this time. My country has been attacked, subjected to aggression, and we must respond based on our legitimate right to self-defense."

Araqchi added that he still does not know the exact extent of the damage from the attack."The United States has shown that it does not respect the UN Charter. It has no respect for international law," he said."By attacking nuclear facilities, they have crossed a very big red line."

"I'm not in a position to reveal what we're going to do in response to what the Americans did last night," he said.

11:35 - Iran's Revolutionary Guards will continue to attack Israel in response to US attacks. According to a statement, which was noted by Reuters, the US has placed itself on the"front line of aggression" with the attack. They described the facilities targeted as peaceful. The Guards warned that the number, distribution and size of US military bases in the region are not their strength, but rather a"vulnerability".

The Revolutionary Guards' statement further stated that Iran's nuclear technology cannot be destroyed by any attack and its operations against Israel's infrastructure, strategic centers and interests will continue.

11:30 - Iran must not get its hands on a nuclear bomb, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said, adding that stability was now the priority given tensions in the Middle East.

"Respect for international law is crucial. Now is the time for Iran to engage in a credible diplomatic solution. The only place to end this crisis is at the negotiating table," she wrote on social network X.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is also calling for a peaceful solution. He called on Iran to immediately begin talks with the United States and Israel with the aim of finding a diplomatic solution to the current conflict, a German government spokesman said on Sunday.

He added that Merz would"closely coordinate" further steps with his EU and US partners throughout the day.

11:22 - The conflict between Israel and Iran could escalate to a global level, believes Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok."The attributes for this regional conflict to become global are also met in terms of the fact that it will then be a matter of religious rivalry," the Interior Minister said in a political discussion on TA3.

If necessary, a security council will meet in Slovakia, according to Šutaj Eštok.

11:20 - Israeli President Isaac Herzog called the US attack on Iran"historic". In a post on the social network X, he welcomed cooperation with the United States and also congratulated Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his success.

"As we have seen in the last hour - the campaign is not over. The days ahead may be sensitive, complex and challenging, and I call on the citizens of Israel to continue to heed the instructions of the Home Front Command to save lives and to demonstrate responsibility and resilience, as they have done so far," he wrote.

He later told the BBC that Iran's nuclear program had been"substantially" hit. He told the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg that he did not know whether Iran's nuclear capability had been completely destroyed.

Asked whether Israel had directly asked the US to attack Iran, Herzog said that"we decided to leave it to the Americans." He then added that he had not known that the US was planning to attack Iran's nuclear facilities.

When asked whether Israel would now stop attacking Iran, he did not give a direct answer, saying only that Iran was launching missiles at Israeli territory, and they must"do whatever is necessary to defend ourselves against the missiles."

"The way to do this is of course to address it internationally and ensure that there is an escape strategy," he added.

11:10 -"Slovak diplomacy has repeatedly drawn attention to the erosion of international law and its non-compliance in all multilateral forums. Any conflict needs to be resolved on the ground of the United Nations and not through weapons, no matter how supposedly good the intention," responds to the attacks by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD).

"It is unacceptable for any state to conduct military operations on the territory of another sovereign state. We consistently appeal that the Middle East region urgently needs peace and stability, which requires de-escalation of the situation and, above all, the return of diplomacy and dialogue."

He added that the priority of Slovak diplomacy is ensuring the safety of Slovak citizens who might be in the region.

11:05 - The US has blown up diplomacy, criticizes Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.

Iran has been negotiating with the US over its nuclear program in recent weeks, and negotiations have also taken place with senior representatives of the European Union.

"According to Britain and a senior EU official, it is Iran that must 'return' to the negotiating table. But how can Iran return to something it has never abandoned, let alone blown up?" the minister wrote. on the social network X.

10:54 - At least 86 people were injured after Iran fired two missile salvos at Israel on Sunday, TASR reports, citing a report by the Times of Israel portal.

10:43 - The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration has told Iranian officials that the strikes on nuclear facilities were a one-time operation and were not aimed at regime change in Tehran. The WSJ cited a senior White House official as saying.

10:40 - European Council President António Costa said on social media that he was"deeply concerned" by the news coming out of the Middle East. He called on all parties to"show restraint" and respect international law as well as nuclear safety.

"Diplomacy remains the only way to bring peace and security to the Middle East region. Too many civilians will once again fall victim to further escalation," Costa wrote.

He added that the European Union will continue to seek a solution through peace negotiations and cooperation with all partners.

10:33 - PS Presidium member Ivan Korčok called the US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities"a turning point in the long-standing effort to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons."

According to the former Secretary of State, Iran continues to pose a threat to the region with its “aggressive policies and support for terrorism.” He calls on the US to consult with allies on further steps.

"The closest opportunity will be the NATO summit. The current crisis also shows the need for a stronger common European defense. Despite the violence, we must insist that the solution can and should be diplomatic. That is why I call on all actors to return to the negotiating table."

10:20 - Iran has confirmed that there is no high radiation around the damaged facilities, Reuters reports.

The head of Iran's nuclear regulatory authority, Mohammadreza Kardan, told state media that plans had been prepared in advance and"measures have been taken to protect the safety and health of our people."

10:00 - The United Kingdom was not involved in the attack on Iran, writes the BBC. According to the BBC, the United Kingdom did not participate in the US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities and the Prime Minister was informed about them in advance.

The information was later confirmed by British Trade Minister Jonathan Reynolds, who said that the British government was aware of US plans to launch air strikes on Iran but did not participate in them, The Guardian reports.

"We support preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. We have suggested a diplomatic approach, as have other European countries, but the Iranians have rejected it," Reynolds told Sky News. He added that the United States has not asked the United Kingdom to support the action. Nor has it requested the use of the British base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

9:55 - Reactions of Middle Eastern countries:

Arab countries, which also have tense relations with Iran, do not support the US attacks. They fear the war will spread to the entire Middle East region. The predominantly Sunni Arab states, however, have long considered the predominantly Shiite Iran a threat.

Saudi Arabia expressed"great concern" over the US bombing and called for a "political solution to end the crisis," Reuters reported. The statement called on the international community to step up efforts to reach a political solution to end the crisis in these"very sensitive circumstances."

Oman has said the US attacks on Iran threaten to "spread war" and are a violation of international law, according to state media. Oman has been a mediator in nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran.

Qatar's Foreign Ministry said on the social network X that it"condemns the deterioration of the situation" and "dangerous tensions" following the US bombing, which would lead to"catastrophic consequences" at the regional and international levels.

9:50 - Slovak President Peter Pellegrini expressed concern over the growing tension in the world. He believes that in the Middle East, but also in Ukraine and all crisis regions as soon as possible, the opposing parties will sit down at the negotiating table. He stated this on Sunday on a social network in response to the United States' attack on Iran.

"The further we go, the more many states, including democratic countries and world powers, resign themselves to diplomatic solutions to crisis situations and prefer forceful solutions in which people die," the president noted.
