Eduardo Bolsonaro will ask Trump to completely block Alexandre de Moraes' accounts.

Tuesday, August 12

247 - Federal Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) plans to ask US President Donald Trump to completely block the accounts of Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, including transactions held at Brazilian banks. The meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday (13) and should involve members of the US administration to discuss the effects of applying the Magnitsky Act against the judge. The information is from Bela Megale's column in the newspaper O Globo.

According to the publication, the move comes amid tensions following a luncheon between Supreme Court justices and bankers held last week at the residence of former Speaker of the House Rodrigo Maia, now president of the National Confederation of Financial Institutions (CNF). Gilmar Mendes, Alexandre de Moraes, and Cristiano Zanin were present.

At the meeting, the impacts of the Magnitsky Act, a US legal mechanism that allows sanctions on foreign officials accused of corruption or human rights violations, were discussed. According to the financial sector's understanding, transactions in reais would be permitted and Moraes' accounts could be maintained, but the scenario is highly unpredictable.

The Supreme Court's leadership responded to leaks about the meeting, assessing that the published versions portrayed the justices as"cornered," as if they were seeking help from the banking sector following the sanctions. Court officials emphasize that the invitation came from the bankers themselves.
