Donald Trump said that the United States, together with Europe, could provide Ukraine with security guarantees at some point in the future, while ruling out the scenario of Kiev joining NATO.

"Maybe, along with Europe and other countries," the American leader said, when asked about the possibility of the United States providing security guarantees to Ukraine."Not in a NATO format, because, you know, there are certain things that are not going to happen," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, en route to Anchorage for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"But yes, together with Europe, there is such a possibility," the American leader added, referring to providing security guarantees to Kiev. He did not provide further details.

The statements are consistent with the position expressed by French President Emmanuel Macron after Trump spoke with European leaders and Zelensky on August 13.

Macron said Trump said several things he considered very important, including that NATO should not be part of the security guarantees, which Macron described as a particularly insistent request from Russia. He added, however, that Trump believes that the US and all allies willing to do so should participate in providing these guarantees.

Trump also confirmed that the issue of Ukrainian territories would be raised in his conversation with Putin, but that he would not"negotiate on behalf of Ukraine."
