The Russian president has no motivation to sit down and seriously negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine, writes the British The Telegraph.

19:22 The inscription"Glory to Russia" was burned on the body of one of the Ukrainian soldiers who returned from Russian captivity. Ukrainian military intelligence has confirmed the authenticity of a shocking photo that recently circulated on the Internet and caused international outrage. This was reported by the spokesman for the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (DIU) Andriy Yusov.

18:41 Russian police on Tuesday detained opposition politician Lev Shlosberg and accused him of repeatedly discrediting the Russian army. According to AFP, the Yabloko political party, of which Shlosberg is vice-chairman, reported this, TASR reports.

Schlosberg is also one of the last publicly known people openly criticizing the war in Ukraine who still lives in Russia and is not in prison.

The Yabloko party said in a statement that Schlosberg was detained for calling for a ceasefire in Ukraine in a video debate earlier this year. The video was then shared on the Odnoklassniki platform, a popular communication forum in Russia.

According to Yabloko, Shlosberg was transferred to a temporary detention center after his arrest on Tuesday as a suspect in the repeated discrediting of the Russian military. Shlosberg will appear before a court on Wednesday to decide his fate.

18:20 The Finnish Ministry of Defense said on Tuesday that it suspects a Russian military aircraft has violated the country's airspace. TASR reports, according to a report by the AFP agency.

The incident near the coastal town of Porvoo, east of the capital Helsinki, came weeks after Finnish officials summoned the Russian ambassador in connection with a similar case.

Finland, which joined NATO in 2023 after Moscow militarily invaded Ukraine the year before, shares a 1,340-kilometer border with Russia.

"An investigation into the alleged violation of airspace has been launched immediately," Defence Minister Antti Häkkanen said of the latest incident. The investigation will be led by the Finnish Coast Guard.

Moscow has repeatedly warned Finland of the possible consequences of its decision to join NATO, and tensions between the countries are rising, AFP notes.

18:10 German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Tuesday criticized Russia's"terror against the civilian population" in Ukraine, TASR reports, according to a report by the AFP agency.

Merz's comments came after Moscow intensified its bombing of Ukrainian territory in recent days.

The Federal Chancellor, at a joint press conference with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, called the Russian attacks on Ukraine"the most serious war crimes." According to him, Russia did not attack military targets, but the civilian population.

According to Merz, Russia's latest steps were"anything but an adequate response to the extremely precise Ukrainian attacks on military airfields and infrastructure over the past week."

"Russia wanted to cause bloodshed, and the fact that it only happened to a limited extent is thanks to the effective Ukrainian defense," he added.

17:38 Russia and Ukraine continued their exchange of prisoners of war on Tuesday, with the latest exchange bringing back a second group of captured soldiers from both sides. The Russian Defense Ministry reported this. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the news and said that all the returned Ukrainians needed immediate medical attention, TASR reports.

The exchange, which began on Monday, is the result of a second round of direct talks between Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul last week. Under the agreement, the warring countries will exchange a total of more than 1,000 prisoners and around 6,000 bodies on each side.

On the first day, Kiev and Moscow exchanged a group of prisoners who were seriously injured or under the age of 25. Kiev and Moscow did not specify on Monday or Tuesday how many people had returned to their homeland.

16:00 If the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) towards the east is not stopped, the war in Ukraine will not end, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Tuesday, calling on the United States to"respect Russia's fundamental interests." The DPA agency reported this, TASR writes.

15:52 As part of the eighteenth package of sanctions against Russia, the European Commission has proposed further restrictions on the Russian energy and banking sectors, a reduction in the price ceiling for Russian oil and a ban on the use of the Nord Stream gas pipeline infrastructure. This was announced today by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen together with the head of the Union's diplomacy Kaja Kallas. According to the head of the Union executive, the EU wants to increase pressure on Russia and get it to sit at the negotiating table and agree to a ceasefire in the conflict with Ukraine.

The new sanctions package will now be discussed by EU member states and requires their unanimous approval for adoption. Slovakia and Hungary have previously indicated they may oppose further sanctions, which could complicate negotiations.

14:31 Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský called on Europe to strengthen its own and Ukrainian security, saying Russia needs to be shown that borders on the European continent are valid. Lipavský told reporters after today's talks with his Slovak counterpart Juraj Blanár. He noted that the Czech Republic and Slovakia have different views on how to achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.

"Peace must be achieved, but without compromises for our European security. I was once again concerned by the statements of some Russian representatives, who have once again pulled out the classic card, threatening nuclear war. It's from the Russian propaganda handbook, let's not let that worry us," said Lipavský.

According to Blanár, however, the current Slovak government's view is confirmed that the conflict in Ukraine has no military solution and that a diplomatic path must be sought for settlement."We agree 98 percent on everything we do in favor of resolving the conflict. We may have a slightly different view on how to achieve a peaceful solution," explained the Slovak minister.

12:25 The Russian side still does not know how many fallen Russian soldiers Ukraine will hand over to it. This was announced today, according to the TASS agency, by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who added that Russia is, on the contrary, ready to exchange dead soldiers and that trucks with bodies are already at the border.

Peskov said the bodies in the vehicles have been at the border for several days."Everything is ready for their transfer to Ukraine," the spokesman said. The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on the current developments.

On Monday, Russia and Ukraine announced the start of a new exchange of prisoners of war that will last several days. Representatives of Russia and Ukraine agreed on this exchange, as well as the handover of the bodies of the fallen, in Istanbul last Monday. Russia said that it would be the largest exchange since the beginning of the war. A total of over a thousand prisoners on both sides who are injured or under the age of 25 are now to be released. The next part of the exchange concerns the fallen.

11:43 Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán apparently believes that he can solve things himself through oil and gas, and is therefore betting on a good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and a bad relationship with Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about this in an interview with the valaszonline.hu server on Tuesday. He expressed his belief that the Hungarian Prime Minister believes that he has bet on a good horse, but will lose, reports a TASR correspondent in Budapest.

Zelensky gave his first interview to a Hungarian media outlet since the outbreak of the war, and according to him, Orbán's position does not reflect the position of the whole of Hungary."This is the difference between Hungary and Russia, because Putin's position in Russia is identical to the position of his society. Viktor's policy, unfortunately, is anti-Ukrainian and anti-European. He uses this in his domestic policy: he wants to use the war in Ukraine to his advantage for the elections. Which is unfair," he added.

The Ukrainian president also commented on the case of alleged members of the Hungarian military intelligence operating in the Transcarpathian region."Budapest tried to interfere in the internal affairs of Ukraine in dozens of different ways. We solved most of the cases quietly, among ourselves. Why did we make this case public? We have other photos and videos from various meetings organized by the Hungarian Military National Security Service (KNBSZ) on Ukrainian territory, which we will also publish if necessary. I don't want to threaten anyone, but we really have everything. Including how the KNBSZ paid its agent," Zelenskyy specified.

10:45 In Kiev, they are guessing what they might learn from Moscow, perhaps in a few hours. The head of the Kremlin has called an extraordinary meeting. It will take place soon, the date has not yet been announced."There will be a large meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation this week," the Rossiya-1 television station reported.  President Vladimir Putin has previously announced that at the next meeting of the council members he wants to talk about the recent attacks, in which the Ukrainians destroyed not only two bridges, but also a large number of strategic bombers.

10:25 Ukrainian world boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk has offered US President Donald Trump a week to stay at his house in Ukraine to better understand the reality of the war.

10:07 Over the past day in Ukraine, according to Kiev, Russia lost 970 soldiers. The number of Russian armed forces killed since the start of the war has increased to 997,120, the Ukrainian General Staff said on Facebook on Tuesday. Over the past day, Moscow also lost four tanks, 11 armored infantry fighting vehicles, 42 artillery systems and one rocket launcher, it said.

Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, Russia has lost a total of 10,915 tanks, 22,759 infantry fighting vehicles, 28,934 artillery systems and 1,411 rocket launchers, according to Kiev.

9:50 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported in a post on the social network X on Tuesday morning that Russia had attacked Ukraine overnight with 315 drones and seven missiles, two of which were North Korean-made. He called on his allies to take concrete steps against Russia.

"Russian missile attacks and Shahid drone strikes are drowning out the efforts of the United States and other countries of the world to force Russia to peace. The next night, instead of a ceasefire, there were massive strikes with drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles," the Ukrainian president wrote on X."Today was one of the largest attacks on Kiev. Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk region and Chernihiv region were also targeted," he said.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported a"massive" drone attack on the capital early Tuesday. Russia also hit a maternity hospital, a medical facility and residential buildings in Odessa overnight. Zelensky said several people were killed and 13 others were injured.

"It is imperative that the response to this and other similar Russian attacks is not silence from the world, but concrete steps. Action by America, which has the power to force Russia to peace. Action by Europe, which has no choice but to be strong. Action by other countries in the world, which have called for diplomacy and an end to the war - and which Russia has ignored. Great pressure must be exerted in the interests of peace," the Ukrainian president declared.

9:45 Russia shot down a total of 102 Ukrainian drones over its territory on Tuesday night. Airports in Moscow and St. Petersburg were forced to temporarily suspend operations due to the attacks. However, no damage was reported.

Almost half of the drones were shot down by Russian forces over the Bryansk region near the border with Ukraine, three over the Moscow region and two over the Leningrad region near St. Petersburg.

The Russian Civil Aviation Authority said it had suspended flights at all four main airports serving Moscow, St. Petersburg's Pulkovo airport and airports in nine other cities.

Russia also carried out attacks overnight. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported a"massive" drone strike early Tuesday. Russia also hit a maternity hospital, a medical facility and residential buildings in the port city of Odessa overnight. One man was killed and four people were injured in the attack.

9:40 The head of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND), Bruno Kahl, warns against underestimating Russia's intentions towards the West and NATO. Ukraine is just the first step for Moscow on its way to the West, Kahl said in the Table.Today podcast.

9:30 Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced early Tuesday that Russia was carrying out a"massive" drone attack on the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. Ukrainian officials, according to AFP, reported that a maternity hospital and a medical facility in the city of Odessa were also targeted in the drone attack, with at least one person killed and four injured.

"Stay in cover! The massive attack on the capital continues," Klitschko said on the Telegram platform.

Russian attacks overnight also hit a maternity hospital, a medical facility and residential buildings in the port city of Odessa. Odessa region governor Oleh Kiper said patients and medical staff had been evacuated. Initial reports said there were no casualties, but the governor later said there had been one casualty.

"Residential buildings in Odessa were destroyed and damaged. A 59-year-old man was killed," Kiper reported, adding that four people were injured in the Russian attacks.

Klitschko also said on Telegram that after midnight, paramedics were called to four areas of Kiev. The military said the attacks were continuing and urged people to take cover. Reuters notes that the full extent of the attack is not yet known.

"Enemy drones are simultaneously attacking several parts of the city," the head of the city's military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, wrote on Telegram."There has been damage to residential buildings and fires. Rescuers are responding to the attacks," he said.

Eyewitnesses told Reuters that loud explosions could be heard across the city. AFP reported that several buildings and cars across Kiev were engulfed in flames and that debris from a drone had fallen near a school. No casualties were reported so far.

Klitschko later announced on Telegram that in addition to drones, missiles were also being directed at Kiev.

The overnight attack, according to Reuters, follows Russia's largest drone strike in more than three years of war in Ukraine on Monday night. Moscow launched 479 drones and Reuters says Russia has stepped up its attacks in Ukraine in retaliation for a recent Ukrainian attack on air bases deep inside Russia.

6:35 Moscow has been escalating its attacks on Ukraine for weeks, setting new records for the number of drones launched over consecutive weekends. But Operation Spiderweb, in which Ukrainians shot down Russian strategic aircraft, appears to have triggered an escalation in Russian bombing, writes the British newspaper The Telegraph in an article titled ‘Putin’s summer of savage brutality has just begun’.

Although Ukrainian air defenses are able to shoot down most of the drones sent, even those that do make it across the border can cause great damage and affect civilian morale, as Ukrainians across the country are forced to take shelter in air raid shelters day after day.

Moscow's escalation of air strikes on Ukraine comes as signs mount that another Russian offensive will begin this summer, and some analysts say it has already begun.

Putin's forces are advancing through Donetsk and Luhansk and appear to be heading for the Dnepropetrovsk region. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the move was partly aimed at creating a"buffer zone" along the front line, The Telegraph reports.

According to Ukrainian military intelligence, around 125,000 Russian troops are massing in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions. Some analysts suggest that their aim could be to try to push as close as possible to the Dnieper River, which flows through the country from north to south, by the end of the year.

Despite Putin's claims to Trump that he is ready to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine, his military's actions suggest otherwise. Last month, when Russian and Ukrainian delegations met in Istanbul to theoretically discuss terms for ending the war, Putin's troops were gaining territory twice as fast as they had in April.

Frankly, despite Operation Spiderweb, Putin remains on the front lines of the war, and as long as he is willing to throw more and more Russians into the meat grinder on the front lines, he is likely to remain so. He simply has no incentive at the moment to sit down and have serious talks about ending this conflict – with Trump, Zelensky or anyone else. To think otherwise is simply delusional, added the author of the article Lisa Haseldine in The Telegraph.

6:30 All Moscow airports temporarily suspended operations on Tuesday night for security reasons, Russian state news agency TASS reported, citing the Rosaviatsia aviation authority. The Russian Defense Ministry had previously reported an attack by dozens of Ukrainian drones. Kiev and Odessa also faced Russian air strikes, with authorities reporting one death.

"Temporary restrictions on the reception and release of aircraft have been introduced at the airports: Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky, Sheremetyevo. The airports are temporarily not accepting or handling flights," the Rosaviatsia report states.

The Defense Ministry in Moscow said today that between approximately 10 p.m. and midnight local time, Russian air defenses destroyed 76 Ukrainian drones over four regions and the annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea.

Russia launched a new attack on the Ukrainian capital Kiev overnight using drones and missiles. According to a DPA reporter, air defenses were heard. Russia also deployed ballistic missiles, the Ukrainian Air Force said. Ukrainian media are reporting a series of explosions, and the military has reported damage in at least three of the city's ten districts so far.

The head of the military administration of the Odessa region, Oleh Kiper, said that residential buildings in Odessa were hit by a Russian attack overnight."A 59-year-old man was killed (...) and four people were injured," Kiper wrote on Telegram. According to him, the administrative building of the emergency medical service was completely destroyed.

Russia began the war with its full-scale invasion of its neighbor in February 2022. Both countries have stepped up airstrikes on each other in recent weeks. On Monday, Russia reportedly used a record 479 drones and 20 missiles and rockets. Ukraine has also been carrying out attacks on Russian targets, with airports in western and southern Russia often closed during these attacks.
