Welcome to our coverage of US politics.
Donald Trump’s tour of south east and east Asia continues with the US president landing in Japan to meet newly elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. She is Japan’s first female leader.
Mr Trump has said he is open to extending his Asian trip to meet North Korea’s Kim Jong-un. But at this point there is no indication Pyongyang would accept such a last-minute meeting.
On board Air Force One, Mr Trump has mused that he would “love” to run for a third term as president.
But he didn’t go as far as to say he would do it or how he would get round the US Constitution which expressly forbids such a move.
However, he appeared to rule out running for election as vice president and then assuming the top job – as some have suggested – saying it was “too cute”, Running for VP is also forbidden.
While California Governor Gavin Newsom has given his clearest indication yet he is looking at a 2028 presidential run. It comes day after fellow Californian and former vice president Kamala Harris is also indicated she could run again.
