US President Donald Trump was a guest on the Fox & Friends talk show on Fox News. The president was asked if he had any news on the suspect in the murder of Charlie Kirk. Trump replied:"I think we have him in custody with a high degree of certainty." He added that he was tipped off by someone who was very close to him.
He declined to reveal who it was, but confirmed that new information would be available during the day. He added that he had heard that the suspect had been arrested five minutes before I entered the studio and that someone very close to the suspect had passed the information on to the authorities.
He praised local authorities, saying they did a great job, everyone cooperated. Everything went well, he added. He also expressed hope that Kirk's killer would be sentenced to death. Kirk was the best person and did not deserve this, he said.
Trump called political ally Kirk a martyr and announced he would award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Today, the Utah Department of Public Safety released a video of the suspect in the murder of one of America's most prominent right-wing activists, Charlie Kirk. The video shows the man running across the roof of a school building and then entering nearby woods, where the gun used to kill Kirk was later found.
Kirk was known for his provocative speeches at American universities, where he promoted conservative views on guns, abortion, the LGBTQ community, race and other issues, for which he faced more than 1,000 death threats, according to Turning Point USA.
