The Mexican boxing legend issued a statement on social media several hours after the news of Julio César Chávez Jr.'s arrest broke. The statement expresses the family's confidence in the innocence of the great champion's son and states that they hope for a prompt resolution.

"To all media outlets. In light of recent events and statements issued by U.S. officials, the Chávez family wishes to express the following:

"Our family is deeply dismayed by the current situation. In these difficult times, we reiterate our total and unconditional support for Julio. We fully trust in his innocence and his humanity, as well as in the justice institutions of Mexico and the United States, in whom we place our hope that this situation will be clarified according to law and truth," the statement reads.
