The meeting in Washington brought the hope of achieving peace closer than it had been during the entire war. It could become even closer if a trilateral summit were held.

This was stated by Turkish international expert and journalist Gungor Yavuzaslan in a comment to Ukrinform following the meeting at the White House.

“The presence of the leaders of the European Union, the presence of the NATO Secretary General and especially the presence of the new NATO member Finland in the White House are indicators that Europe will also be part of the security architecture. Now all eyes are on the trilateral summit between Putin, Zelensky and Trump. If this summit takes place, we can consider it a step towards peace,” Gungyor Yavuzaslan emphasized.

The expert emphasized that the US president is trying very hard to justify his role as a peacemaker and someone who facilitates the conclusion of agreements.

“But we need to convince Putin’s Russia, which occupied Ukrainian territories. Peace has never been so close. This is not just a ceasefire… If the trilateral summit takes place, we will be able to say that we are very close to peace in Ukraine,” Gungor Yavuzaslan noted.

As Ukrinform reported, the planning teams of the Coalition of the Willing will meet with American colleagues in the coming days to discuss providing Ukraine with reliable security guarantees and preparing for the deployment of deterrent forces in the event of a cessation of hostilities.
