Israel is attacking targets associated with the Iranian regime and government in central Tehran, Defense Minister Kac announced.
"The Israeli army is currently attacking regime targets and the repressive authorities in central Tehran with unprecedented force," said Yisrael Katz.
According to reports from Iran, the target of the attack was one of the universities in the capital or the entrance to Evin prison, where political prisoners or human rights activists are held.
He said that every rocket fired against Israeli territory would be met with harsh punishment and airstrikes would continue with full intensity.
"We will continue to defend our country and defeat the enemy until we achieve all war goals," Kac added.
According to Al Jazeera, the attack targeted Tehran and the nearby city of Karaj. Smoke billowed from the affected areas in the capital. Iranian state television interrupted live broadcasts for several minutes after a technical building serving several channels was hit.
The Red Crescent building and the prestigious Shahid Beheshti University were also targeted in the attack.
