Ukraine, one arrest for Parubiy's murder. He posed as a courier: "A carefully crafted plan."

Monday, September 1

A person has been arrested in connection with the murder of former Ukrainian parliament speaker Andriy Parubiy in Lviv. President Volodimir Zelensky announced this. “A thorough investigation is underway,” the president said on social media, thanking investigators for their “swift and coordinated work.” Parubiy, a prominent figure in the country’s pro-European protest movements in 2004 and 2014 and a leader of the Maidan Square demonstrations, was shot dead on Saturday in the western city of Lviv.

Zelensky said that Interior Minister Igor Klymenko and Security Service Chief Vasyl Maliuk had informed him of the arrest. In a subsequent post, after speaking with Chief Prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko, he added: “The suspect has given a first testimony. Urgent investigative actions are currently underway to establish all the circumstances of this murder.”

Parubiy, a 54-year-old parliamentarian, was killed on Saturday by an attacker posing as a courier, sparking a manhunt. Klymenko said the preliminary investigation found the murder was"carefully prepared," with Parubiy's travel schedule and route mapped out, as well as an escape plan. He added that the Ukrainian National Police would provide further details later.
