President Gustavo Petro spoke out against the Council of State's decision against one of his administration's decrees, which anticipated his controversial health care reform, an initiative still being debated in Congress.

Through his favorite platform, his personal X account, the head of state published a message in which he criticized the measure adopted by the high court and took the opportunity to launch a strong blow.

“I say it clearly: suspending a preventive system in a country is going against human life. The law mandates a preventive system for Colombia,” Gustavo Petro posted.

The president's stance came after the Council of State provisionally repealed Decree 0858 of 2025 of the Ministry of Health on Thursday, which would have allowed the implementation of the new preventive, predictive, and decisive health model in Colombia.

The lawsuit against the measure was filed by Andrés Forero, a House representative for the Democratic Center party, who has been one of the congressmen who has found the most inconsistencies regarding Petro's health plan.

“Decree the provisional suspension of the effects of Decree 0858 of July 30, 2025, By which part 11 of Book 2 of Decree 780 of 2016 is replaced, relative to the preventive, predictive and resolutive health model, issued by the national Government, for the reasons set forth in the motivational part of this order”, follows one of the sections of the decision of the Council of State.

In turn, representative Forero reacted through his X account: “New setback for @petrogustavo and @GA_Jaramillo. The @consejodeestado accepted my request for precautionary measures and suspended Decree 0858 of 2025″.

He continued: “It is good news and a relief for Colombians that ‘Plan B’ or health reform via decree has stalled.”
