US Secretary of State Marco Rubio outlined the conditions for achieving peace in Ukraine on Thursday.
He stressed that achieving peace in Ukraine requires discussing security guarantees, in addition to the military reality on the ground and territorial claims.
Rubio continued,"Everyone understands the need to discuss the details of these terms, as well as the true purpose of the fight, and that will be part of a comprehensive agreement."
He added that Trump expects a ceasefire to be achieved in order to "create the conditions for negotiations."
The White House confirmed that the US administration still relies on the diplomatic track as the first option, but did not rule out using"other tools" if negotiated solutions fail.
Earlier today, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president, announced that the meeting would begin on Friday with a bilateral meeting attended by translators.
He pointed out the symbolism of the location of the summit between the two leaders, near the memorial to the Soviet pilots who fell alongside their American counterparts in World War II, whose victory was commemorated by Russia last May.
