Globally, June 2025 was the third warmest June on record, just behind June 2024 and almost as hot as June 2023. This marked the third consecutive year of record average temperatures. Particularly"extreme" temperatures were recorded in Europe, which is warming twice as fast as the global average.

June was marked by two consecutive"exceptional" heatwaves – from June 17 to 22 and from June 30 onwards – explained Samantha Burgess, a climatologist at Copernicus. She expects such heatwaves to become"more frequent and intense, affecting more and more people in Europe."

In several countries, temperatures repeatedly exceeded 40 degrees Celsius, and in Spain and Portugal they even reached 46 degrees. According to Copernicus, June 30 was"one of the hottest summer days ever recorded on the continent."
