According to Trump's letters, tariffs on imports from Sri Lanka, Libya, Iraq and Algeria to the US will amount to 30 percent, from Moldova and Brunei 25 percent, and from Philippines 20 percent, starting August 1, reports AP.
Trump also added that later in the day he would announce tariffs on goods imported from other countries.
The letters were posted on Trump's Truth Social network after a 90-day negotiating period expired, and Trump said yesterday that there would be no further extensions for countries receiving the letters.
European Trade Commissioner Maros Šefčovič told MEPs in Strasbourg that the EU was spared the increased tariffs contained in the letters sent by Trump and that extending the talks until August 1 would provide"additional space to reach a satisfactory conclusion".
On April 2, Trump proposed 20 percent tariffs on EU goods, then threatened to raise them to 50 percent, then proposed initial tariffs of 10 percent.
