Colombia is facing two terrorist attacks this Thursday, August 21. First, there was an attack on a police helicopter in Amalfi, Antioquia, which left 12 officers dead. Hours later, an explosion occurred at the Marco Fidel Suárez air base in Cali, which left six dead and dozens injured.
According to information from authorities, the helicopter carrying out anti-drug operations in Amalfi was shot down by a drone in the morning by"criminal dissidents who are part of the alias Calarcá cartel," said Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez.
At around 2:50 p.m., a car bomb detonated near the Marco Fidel Suarez Air Base. The explosives seriously injured people walking along Cali's busy Carrera 8. Vehicles, businesses, and other buildings were also destroyed.
President Gustavo Petro called for a minute of silence for the victims during a ceremony in Valledupar, declaring it"a day of death."
