The final stage of the cycling classic Tour of Spain had to be stopped on Sunday, after large demonstrations in Madrid.

Several stages of the Tour of Spain have been affected by large pro-Palestinian protests. Stages have had to be rescheduled and shortened, and crashes have been caused.

The protests have come after an Israeli team, Isreal-Premier Tech, was allowed to compete in the Tour of Spain, something that has been criticized in light of the ongoing war in Gaza.

During the final stage of the cycling race on Sunday, large demonstrations erupted in the Spanish capital, with thousands of protesters taking part. They are said to have pushed down barriers, entered the intended cycling route and blocked the road, and set off smoke bombs.

The demonstrations were so extensive that the organizers decided to cancel the final stage.

This means that the Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard, who rides for Visma, wins the race. It is the first time a Dane has won the “Vuelta”. However, it is unclear whether a victory ceremony will be held due to the demonstrations.
