Official Investigation and Legal Response

Local authorities in the Fes province reported that the death toll from the collapse of two residential buildings in the Al-Mustaqbal neighborhood of the Al-Massira urban area in Fes, on Tuesday night, has unfortunately risen to 22, with 16 people injured with varying degrees of severity, after the end of search and debris removal operations at the scene.

Local authorities explained that initial data indicates that the collapsed buildings were constructed in 2006, as part of self-construction operations for the benefit of the residents of the “Ain Smen” hamlet within the “Fez without slums” program.

In parallel with the judicial investigation carried out on the subject under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office, the same source adds, administrative investigations and technical expertise were also initiated and entrusted to a specialized studies office, with the aim of collecting all data related to the incident, determining the underlying technical reasons behind the collapse of the two buildings, and identifying all procedural irregularities that may have marred the legal procedures and regulatory controls in force in the field of urban planning and construction.

According to local authorities, these administrative and technical investigations aim to clarify the extent of the administrative and technical responsibilities resulting from this tragic incident.
