The association Jucil, the majority in the Civil Guard, and the Unified Association of Civil Guards, have urged the Government to reinforce the town of Torre Pacheco (Murcia) with more resources to guarantee order and"avoid a terrible disaster", after two consecutive nights of disturbances.

The Civil Guard currently has 75 officers deployed in the town to maintain order and prevent possible disturbances, following two consecutive nights of unrest involving members of the Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) of the Civil Guard Command in Murcia, the Reserve and Security Group (GRS), riot police, and citizen security patrols from Torre Pacheco and other municipalities in the region.

These forces will be augmented on Tuesday with another 20 GRS members, although the goal is to adapt the operation to the situation, the sources explain, noting that the Civil Guard is working in collaboration with the Local Police.

"We want to express our full support to the colleagues who acted last night in Torre Pacheco, and also to the local residents," Jucil said in a message on X.

Therefore, he demands that the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska,"provide the town with the necessary resources and personnel to prevent a terrible disaster from occurring."

"It's been 36 hours since the riots began in Torre Pacheco. Let's hope that tonight, 48 hours later, Marlaska has done his job," the association added.

Likewise, the Unified Association of Civil Guards has condemned the"serious disturbances, assaults on officers, and the loss of authority" in this Murcia town.

"What is happening in Torre Pacheco cannot be normalized," the association defends in a statement on X."The colleagues have acted professionally in a critical situation, without the means or adequate support."

For all these reasons, they demand"urgent" and permanent reinforcement of the riot squad and security units, a"firm condemnation of any attack on the Civil Guard," sufficient material and human resources to guarantee order,"zero tolerance for hate speech and threats," as well as "unqualified institutional support."

The professional association Independientes de la Guardia Civil (IGC) also joined in, calling for more resources in a statement and reminding everyone that"members of the Guardia Civil act to protect all residents, without distinction," while condemning the disturbances.

The Civil Guard has arrested one person after the second night of riots, in which five people were injured.

Torre Pacheco experienced a new day of incidents and clashes last night, allegedly against young foreigners, by extremist groups, which began on Friday night after a peaceful demonstration called by the City Council to condemn an attack on a 68-year-old man on Wednesday by an unknown person whom the Civil Guard is trying to locate.

Social media monitoring

Sources from the Ministry of the Interior report that the State Security Forces are conducting"permanent monitoring of social media" to identify and arrest individuals and groups that are encouraging the organization of riots and the commission of crimes.
