Iranian Perspective

Following the US attacks on Iran, Slovenia has called for a calm in tensions and a return to negotiations. Similar calls are also coming from other countries.

Prime Minister Robert Golob called on all parties to cease hostilities and return to the negotiating table following today's American attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran. He warned that further escalation in the Middle East poses a serious threat. As Golob emphasizes, violence and military conflicts only lead to greater suffering for the innocent population of the Middle East. He also joined the UN General Assembly's statement that peace and diplomacy are the only way forward, the Prime Minister's Office announced.

The Foreign Ministry, however, stressed on the X network that this escalation could further worsen an already dangerous situation, threaten international peace and security, plunge the region into chaos and endanger the lives of civilians. As the Ministry emphasized, Slovenia remains concerned about the scope and unclear nature of Iran's nuclear program. They reiterated that Slovenia rejects the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

The ministry also supported UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' call for peace and respect for the UN Charter. It called for a calm and a return to negotiations."Diplomacy and dialogue must prevail, and war must be avoided," the ministry added.

Irresponsible and dangerous escalation

The Left Party, meanwhile, condemned the US attack as a dangerous and irresponsible escalation that is once again pushing the Middle East and the world to the brink of a new war. It called on the international community, including the European Union, to strongly condemn this attack, which the US carried out without a UN mandate and thereby undermined the global security system.

It called on Slovenia to request an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to condemn this illegal attack. As the Left's coordinator Asta Vrečko emphasized in a press release, the party also calls for an immediate ceasefire and the start of a peace process without any ultimatums.

Meanwhile, Janša congratulated Trump

SDS President Janez Janša congratulated the US president after the attacks."A difficult decision, but a necessary one. Well done, Mr. President," he wrote on the social network X.

He stressed that the destruction of"the most dangerous weapon in the world in the hands of the world's leading sponsor of terrorism" brings hope for a safer world. For Iran, however, according to Janša, the best scenario is for the oppressed people to overthrow the regime."Now is the time for it," the SDS president wrote.

NATO members have reached an agreement today, according to unnamed sources, to increase budget spending on defense and security to five percent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2035, foreign news agencies report. The agreement will be officially confirmed by heads of state at a summit in The Hague on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Berlin and London call on Iran to the negotiating table after US attacks

Germany and Britain have called on Iran to return to the negotiating table to reach a diplomatic solution to the conflict with Israel. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has again called on Iran to"immediately negotiate with the United States and Israel to reach a diplomatic solution to the conflict".

After a security cabinet meeting chaired by Merz, government spokesman Stefan Kornelius also announced that Germany estimates that a large part of Iran's nuclear program was damaged in the US air strikes. He added that a more precise assessment of the damage would only be possible later, the German news agency dpa reported. He also said that Berlin would coordinate further steps with its EU partners and the US.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also called on Tehran to negotiate in response."The situation in the Middle East remains volatile, and stability in the region is a priority. We call on Iran to return to the negotiating table and reach a diplomatic solution to end this crisis," he said.

"Iran's nuclear program is a serious threat to international security. Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, which is why the United States has taken action to reduce that threat," he said, according to British media reports.

Tehran suspended negotiations with the US over its nuclear program after Israeli attacks on Iran on June 13. The negotiations were necessary after the international agreement on Iran's nuclear program expired due to the US's unilateral withdrawal from the agreement during Donald Trump's first term as president.

France calls for restraint

France has called for restraint to avoid escalating the conflict. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stressed on social media that France had no role in planning the attacks. He added that Paris calls on all parties to exercise restraint to avoid any escalation that could lead to an escalation of the conflict.

The Elysee Palace announced that French President Emmanuel Macron planned to convene a meeting of the French defense council in response to the attacks. They added that he had already discussed the situation in the region with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Omani President Sultan Haitham bin Tariq today, and would also speak with European partners and regional leaders in the coming hours, the French news agency AFP reported.

Pope Leo XIV., in response to the US attack on Iran, announced that"humanity cries out for peace", and called for an end to wars. He stressed that every member of the international community has a moral responsibility to end the tragedy of war before it becomes an irreparable abyss.
