What will happen at the Geneva meeting today

A source with access to information revealed to"Asas" that US Middle East envoy Stephen Witkow sent a proposal to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Wednesday during a security meeting with Trump. The information published on American television channels about the possibility of the US joining the strike against Iran is part of the pressure on Tehran following the proposal. But this does not rule out the possibility that the threat is serious.

The proposal sent by Stephen Wilkoff to the Iranians is as follows:

Halting uranium enrichment on Iranian territory and at all facilities, including the Fordow plant, which could be attacked at any moment.

Iran's joining a regional alliance for uranium enrichment, which includes Arab and non-Arab countries that have ambitions to build nuclear facilities for peaceful purposes.

The headquarters of this union should be outside Iranian territory.

If Iran accepts the US proposal, a meeting will be held between Witkow and Irakchi, which will also be attended by US Vice President J.D. Vance.

Russia will participate in the regional alliance to appease Iran. It should be noted that a number of Russian experts work at some Iranian nuclear facilities, such as the Bushehr reactor.

The Iranians asked through Oman and Qatar for a few hours to respond. Irakchi sent a response in Iranian, with diplomatic language that contained neither a complete rejection nor a complete acceptance of the American terms.

The Iranian response focuses on the following:

Iran is interested in a political solution to the nuclear issue. But it cannot negotiate without a ceasefire, as negotiations under fire could hinder the political process. This is the ceiling set by Iranian leader Ali Khamenei for the Iranian negotiator.

Iran cannot give up its right to enrich uranium on its territory. But it is ready to accept uranium enrichment up to 3.67% on its territory, and anything above that to be done outside its territory in Russia or by another formula.

Iran may accept the idea of creating a regional alliance with the countries of the region to enrich uranium, without enriching uranium at any level, provided that the headquarters of this alliance is on Iranian territory.

In effect, Iran answered"yes and no" simultaneously, in an attempt to leave the door open for negotiations. The Iranians proposed an idea for the location of the regional union - on one of the three UAE islands occupied by Tehran. Iran considers the three islands to be Iranian territory, while the countries of the region consider them entirely UAE territory.

The sources did not specify to what extent this agreement is a step towards ending the war, but indicated that the meeting at which Irakdi will talk with his colleagues - the foreign ministers of France, Germany and Britain, in Geneva today, Friday, will play a role in attempts to improve Iran's position.

"Arab-Islamic Lobby" vs."Israeli Lobby"

After President Trump's meeting with his team ended on Tuesday night, US media reported differences among the US president's advisers on the issue of joining the military strikes. The reason for the division is due to the different views of pressure groups, or so-called"lobbies", regarding America's strike against Iran.

According to information from"Asas", an Arab-Islamic group representing influential countries in the region, is working to avoid America's entry into the conflict in an attempt to control the situation and prevent the Persian Gulf and the Caucasus from falling into chaos and instability, as well as the consequences of this for global trade corridors and oil and gas exports and production.

This group has managed to attract a significant portion of the Republican and Democratic Parties, as well as the Trump team. This success has been manifested in the opposition of lawmakers from both parties and part of Trump's team to Washington's involvement in the fight, but without abandoning their support for strikes against Iranian nuclear and military facilities.

On the other hand, influential groups supporting Israel and Netanyahu are trying to influence President Trump, believing that the involvement of the United States in the conflict will accelerate its resolution, especially if Trump strikes the Fordow facility. But some members of Trump's team fear that the American president may fall into the trap of a"long war" and prefer that he remain on the sidelines, believing that success will be America's success, and failure will be borne only by Netanyahu, without Trump.

Despite the division in the presidential team in the White House, the decision remains in the hands of one man - Donald Trump, who knows how to send conflicting signals to confuse the adversary. Sometimes he says it is too late to negotiate, and in the same speech he says negotiations are still possible. It is natural that Trump prefers to achieve what he wants in politics without engaging in direct strikes. So far, his speeches have had the same effect as the B52 and B2 aircraft. But he could resort to a strike if he concludes that the Iranians are again trying to buy time.
