Official report on terrorist attack in Cali: death toll and injury figures rise

Following the attack that occurred this Thursday afternoon near the Marco Fidel Suárez air base in Cali, Mayor Alejandro Eder announced a series of measures.

The president announced them through the social network X, where he announced mobility restrictions for trucks weighing more than four tons in the city.

“Cali is once again the victim of a narco-terrorist attack. A few minutes ago, a truck exploded outside the air base, leaving several dead and wounded. We will not give in to terrorists,” he said.

"I spoke with the Cali Police Commander and ordered him to immediately secure all entrances to the city; we are going to restrict traffic of trucks weighing four tons or more from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m., until further notice," Eder said.

He also asked the people of Cali to be alert to prevent a new attack."I ask the public, if they have information about this attack or any other that is being planned, to call 123, where we offer up to 400 million pesos for information that will allow us to capture those responsible," he said.

According to the Colombian Aerospace Force (FAC), the terrorist attack perpetrated with a car bomb occurred at around 2:50 p.m. this Thursday, August 21.

After learning of the incident, the Cali Mayor's Office established a unified command post to address the situation.

  • The World Cup Tunnel is being closed as a precautionary measure by order of the Cali Metropolitan Police.
  • A preventive measure is being taken to close Calle 5 and Carrera 80, near the Third Brigade battalion.
  • As a precautionary measure, closures are being carried out around the perimeter of the Cali Metropolitan Police command, on Carrera 1 and Calle 21.
  • Emcali has activated operational groups to restore power service in the area and address issues affecting the electrical infrastructure.
