This Monday, June 9, the Democratic Center formally and urgently requested that Attorney General Luz Adriana Camargo investigate the veracity of information pointing to several attacks against political leaders, including former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez.

The letter was signed by the party's director, Gabriel Jaime Vallejo.

"In my capacity as national director of the Democratic Center Party, and by virtue of the constitutional and legal duties that the Attorney General's Office has as guarantor of the fundamental rights and security of all citizens, I am writing to you to bring to your attention information of the utmost seriousness and urgency," Vallejo headed the letter.

Esta es la carta del Centro Democrático a la Fiscalía General de la Nación.

Vallejo concluded his letter: “Given the extremely sensitive nature of this alert and the national context of growing hostility and violence against opposition leaders, we urgently and immediately request that the Attorney General's Office initiate the corresponding investigative actions in order to verify the veracity of the information received.”

Precisely, this Monday former president Álvaro Uribe, who is cautious when it comes to speaking about issues of his security, alerted the country of a possible attack against him.

"While Miguel Uribe Turbay is fighting for his life, the government is talking about other issues. From within, they are urging us to seek agreements to prevent further massacres.

Hours later, presidential candidate Vicky Dávila notified Colombians that a military officer had informed her that Iván Mordisco, the feared leader of the FARC dissidents, ordered the attack against Miguel Uribe and that the plan included an attempt on his life and that of the senator of the Democratic Center, María Fernanda Cabal."The mission would be carried out by alias"Pelo" or alias "El Grande" from the FARC dissidents," the renowned journalist specified.

For her part, Senator María Fernanda Cabal has not commented on the issue, but sources within her presidential campaign say the topic has been discussed within her family and political party.

At least as of Monday afternoon, prosecutor Luz Adriana Camargo had not commented on the matter.
