The Arab League condemned the Israeli aggression against Iran on Friday, calling for it to be halted and for regional and international efforts to be intensified to reduce tensions, leading to a comprehensive ceasefire and regional calm.

This came in the final statement of an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers held in Istanbul, chaired by Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, to discuss developments in the region, most notably the Israeli aggression against Iran and its repercussions.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting, which begins Saturday in Istanbul and is chaired by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The two-day meeting will be held on the sidelines of the OIC Foreign Ministers' Meeting, which begins Saturday in Istanbul and is chaired by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

According to the statement, the ministers considered the Israeli aggression against Iran"a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of a UN member state and a threat to regional peace and security."

The attendees stressed "the need to halt the aggression, return to negotiations to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue, and support efforts to de-escalate the situation."

The ministers called on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to"fulfill its responsibilities to halt the Israeli aggression, which constitutes a clear violation of international law and a threat to regional security."

They believed that "diplomacy and dialogue are the only way to resolve crises, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law."

The statement stressed that "a comprehensive calm will only be achieved by addressing all causes of conflict and tension, starting with halting the Israeli aggression on Gaza, providing immediate, adequate, and sustainable humanitarian aid through UN agencies, and halting illegal Israeli measures in the West Bank, which undermine the two-state solution."

The Arab ministers warned that "Israel is pushing the region toward more conflict and tension," calling for "effective international action to halt Israel's aggressive policies, work toward achieving a just peace, and implement international legitimacy resolutions and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative."

The statement stressed "the necessity of respecting freedom of navigation in international waterways," warning of "the repercussions of targeting them on the global economy and energy security."

He called for "condemning any violation of the airspace of the region's countries by any party, and refraining from targeting nuclear facilities subject to International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards."

Arab foreign ministers warned of "the dangers of nuclear emissions and leaks, and the devastating humanitarian and environmental impacts they could cause."

They called for "a Middle East region free of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction, based on United Nations resolutions and the decisions of previous Arab summits, the most recent of which was the Baghdad Summit in May 2025."

They also stressed the "need for all countries in the region to join the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons."

This comes as Israel, with US support, has launched a massive attack on Iran since June 13, targeting nuclear facilities, missile bases, military leaders, and nuclear scientists. Tehran responded by launching ballistic missiles and drones deep into Israel, in the largest direct confrontation between the two sides to date.

Meanwhile, since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.

The genocide left approximately 186,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands were displaced, and famine claimed the lives of many, including children.
