Representatives of Palestinian movements, including those of Hamas, who met in Cairo on Thursday, agreed today that an independent committee of technocrats would temporarily take over the governance of Gaza, following the ceasefire that has been in effect since October 10.
According to the announcement posted on Hamas' website, the Palestinian organizations participating in the talks reached an agreement to form a temporary Palestinian committee, consisting of independent, technocratic residents of Gaza, which will be responsible for managing daily affairs and basic services.
The Palestinian organizations also agreed on a national strategy aimed at revitalizing the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
Hamas is not a member of the PLO.
