Trump's Weapons Support for Ukraine

Trump's Disappointment with Putin

US President Donald Trump wants to use secondary tariffs to persuade Russia to agree to an end to its invasion war against Ukraine.

We will impose very strict tariffs if we do not reach an agreement within 50 days, Trump said on Monday at a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House.

In addition, the US and NATO have agreed on massive arms deliveries to Ukraine. The agreement means that Ukraine will get its hands on truly massive quantities of military equipment, said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

According to this, US weapons such as air defense systems, missiles or ammunition are to be paid for by European countries such as Germany.

I use trading for many things

"I use trade for many things," said the US president."But it's great for ending wars." Representatives of both parties in Congress are working on legislation that would impose 500 percent tariffs on goods from countries that continue to buy Russian oil, gas, uranium, and other goods.

This would primarily affect China and India. The bill has overwhelming support in the Senate, but the Republican leadership is waiting for Trump's green light.

On the subject of arms deliveries, Trump reiterated that the planned deliveries also include Patriot defense systems. He justified this by citing his disappointment in President Putin, who talks about peace but relentlessly bombs Ukraine.

Faster deliveries and joint production

Trump's special envoy for Russia and Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, who subsequently stated that he had a productive discussion with the retired lieutenant general about strengthening Ukraine's air defense, joint weapons production, the purchase of US weapons in consultation with European countries, and the possibility of tougher sanctions against the Kremlin.

Rubio said on Friday that some of the US weapons requested by Ukraine are in use by NATO allies in Europe. They could transfer the weapons to Ukraine and purchase replacements for themselves in the US. It's much faster to transport something from Germany to Ukraine, for example, than to order it from a (US) factory and have it shipped there, Rubio said.
