Conservative Party leader Erna Solberg believes the US attack on three nuclear facilities in Iran on Sunday night was not in line with international law.
When asked by Politisk kvarter's Lilla Sølhusvik whether it was wrong for the United States to bomb Iran, Solberg replied:
– In any case, it is not in line with international law, and it is quite clear that we can be clear about that. But at the same time, Iran is not behaving in accordance with international conventions at the moment either.
She pointed out that the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) has pointed out that Iran is violating the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and said that Iran is a destabilizing factor in the entire region. Therefore, it is important to prevent the country from obtaining nuclear weapons.
– The absolute most important thing is to do it through diplomatic means, as was attempted about ten years ago.
– This targeted attack on nuclear enrichment is not in line with international law, but it is also not the case that we can avoid saying that Iran is also not acting in accordance with the international conventions by which they are bound, said Solberg.
The American attack came just over a week after Israel carried out its own attack on Iran.
Norway then came out strongly and condemned the Israeli attack. However, Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide (Ap) did not answer questions from NTB on Sunday about whether Norway condemned the American attack.
