This idea had been suggested to billionaire Elon Musk the previous day by a high-ranking Russian official.
"A tunnel from Russia to Alaska. That's (...) interesting," Trump said when asked about it by reporters during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Showing that he had just heard about the proposal for such a project, Trump asked Zelensky:"What do you think about it, Mr. President? (...). How do you like that idea?"
"I don't like it," Zelensky replied, making Trump laugh.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's international economic envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, presented the idea of a 112-kilometer tunnel under the Bering Sea on Thursday at Musk's"X" platform.
According to Dmitriev, the idea of a"peace bridge" between Russia and Alaska was put forward during the Cold War.
"With modern technology from The Boring Company, this could become a Putin-Trump tunnel," the Russian official wrote.
