Meeting between Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and the President of the United States of America will not take place in the near future. The Budapest summit is likely to be jeopardized by Moscow's refusal to immediately cease fire in Ukraine.

The agency reports this. Reuters citing statements by diplomats after a preparatory meeting between senior US and Russian diplomats was postponed. Europe is calling on Washington to demand an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, and is emphasizing that the current front line should serve as the basis for any negotiations.

Trump himself announced the meeting with Putin last week. However, preparations for it have hit a snag. A meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was scheduled to take place in Budapest on Thursday, October 23, but it will not take place.

Neither side has publicly abandoned plans for Trump to meet Putin, and it appears that work is underway to organize a summit in Hungary. At least, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó was in Washington on Tuesday and wrote on Facebook:"Serious days lie ahead."

At the same time, journalists emphasize that two senior European diplomats said that the postponement of the Rubio-Lavrov meeting is a sign that the Americans may not be inclined to hold a Trump-Putin summit unless Moscow gives up its demands.

"We're not sure it's going to happen, and maybe it won't. The Russians probably wanted too much, and it became obvious to the Americans that Trump wouldn't reach any agreement in Budapest," one of them said.

The second diplomat said that the Russians have not changed their position at all. Moscow does not agree to stop at the front:

"And I assume Lavrov made the same speech, and Rubio replied, 'Goodbye.'"

It is noted that Ukraine's allies in Europe have expressed concern about the second meeting between Trump and Putin without receiving any concessions from the dictator.

Trump himself has often changed his position in public when speaking about Ukraine. Although during his last meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky, the American leader clearly supported the position that a ceasefire should begin with the forces remaining in their current positions. The media wrote that the meeting between Trump and Zelensky was"controversial." It was reported that the US president used foul language and put pressure on Zelensky, although Zelensky called the meeting successful.

European leaders are due to meet this week to discuss the creation of a security force to guarantee a post-war settlement in Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelensky will be present. At the same time, Russia rejects the idea of creating such an international security force.

Trump-Putin meeting: latest news

Earlier, Reuters, citing an unnamed White House official, wrote that the meeting between the President of the United States of America Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin are not planned in the near future.

NBC News journalist Garrett Haake said that planning for the meeting was put on hold because"the US president believes that both sides are not yet ready for negotiations to justify holding them now."
