(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kwak Min-seo = The Democratic Party of Korea welcomed the first summit between President Lee Jae-myung and U.S. President Donald Trump on the 26th, evaluating it as"successful" and "120 out of 100."

Representative Jeong Cheong-rae said in a Facebook post that day,"President Lee's famous remark of 'peacemaker/pacemaker' is a scene that fully demonstrated his talent as a negotiator," and "The fact that President Trump immediately liked it and responded that he wants to meet Kim Jong-un within the year is likely to be the biggest achievement of this summit."

Kim Byung-ki, the floor leader, also said at the floor strategy meeting that day,"The president and the government are working hard every day for the national interest and achieving results," and "The leaders of South Korea and the United States reaffirmed their will to cooperate in the shipbuilding and energy sectors, agreed on ideas for peace on the Korean Peninsula, and it was also a great achievement that companies from both countries signed a total of 11 contracts and memorandums of understanding (MOUs)."

He added,"The Democratic Party will calmly review the upcoming working-level talks and additional measures and do its best to support them," and "We will work together with the government to reduce uncertainty in trade, diplomacy, and security and further strengthen the ROK-U.S. alliance."

In a statement, Senior Spokesperson Park Soo-hyun said,"I sincerely congratulate the successful holding of the summit," and added,"The South Korea-U.S. summit held at the White House early this morning served as an opportunity to reaffirm the long history of our alliance."

Spokesperson Park said,"The alliance forged in blood 70 years ago has now become even stronger through cutting-edge technology and international cooperation. I highly value the strengthening of the strong ROK-U.S. relationship," adding,"I express my deepest gratitude to the President and his staff for doing their utmost in the name of national interests."

Kim Young-bae, the ruling party floor leader of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, said on SBS radio,"The most impressive thing is the trust-building between the two leaders," adding,"Since this is the first summit, I would like to give it 120 points out of 100."

Within the Democratic Party, there were many voices criticizing the US's attitude and evaluating President Lee's strategy for the meeting, which was linked to President Trump's remarks about a"purge and revolution in Korea" just before the meeting.

Representative Jeong Cheong-rae said,"President Lee Jae-myung is very smart," and "He displayed the wit of a negotiator through very strategic language choices."

Rep. Kim Moon-soo said,"President Trump launched a surprise attack in advance (by mentioning 'revolution' and such), but (the result) was President Lee Jae-myung's victory."

Rep. Choi Min-hee said on Facebook,"Is it possible that before the meeting, the words 'revolution' and 'purge' were mentioned on social media to corner the president of the opposing country?" She added,"During the presidential election, President Lee said, 'If it's for the national interest, I will crawl between Trump's legs,' but during this meeting, I was moved to tears seeing him working hard for the people and the national interest."

Rep. Park Hong-geun also said on Facebook about President Trump's social media,"I hope that President Trump will show courtesy and dignity to the people of our ally, the Republic of Korea, and the constitutional order before he displays his arrogant skills."

Meanwhile, Rep. Kim Jun-hyung of the Democratic Party of Korea criticized on CBS Radio that day,"Even if it's the US president posting something like that on social media, it's not appropriate in itself," and "In fact, it's a huge disrespect and interference in internal affairs."
