Hurricane Erick, formed on the morning of Tuesday, June 17, in the Pacific Ocean, continues to advance off the coast of southern Mexico with accelerated development that has triggered alerts from Civil Protection and the country's meteorological authorities.
Since its formation, Erick has been gaining strength as it advances towards the coast of Mexico and has currently become a category 3 hurricane.
However, authorities have already warned that they expect it to reach Category 3 status before making landfall in Mexico, or even continue to strengthen before entering the country.
When will Hurricane Erick make landfall?
According to official information provided during the conference of the National Commission of Water (Conagua), the phenomenon is expected to make landfall on the morning of Thursday, June 19, at around 06:00 hours , as a category 3 hurricane.
The National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) reported that, given the forecast of intensification and approach, a liaison mission was deployed with the local authorities of Chiapas, Oaxaca and Guerrero to coordinate preventive actions with the objective of protecting the population.
According to the head of the National Meteorological Service (SMN), Hurricane Erick could directly impact the borders of Guerrero and Oaxaca by Thursday morning.

What will be its trajectory?
The National Meteorological Service (SMN) forecasts that the system will continue to move west-northwest, parallel to the southern coasts of the country, with progressive intensification.
According to the official projection, the next few days will be key :
- Tuesday, June 17, 12:00 p.m.: It will continue as a tropical storm with winds of up to 100 km/h, 360 km from Boca de Pijijiapan.
- Wednesday, June 18, 12:00 a.m.: It will strengthen with winds of between 100 and 120 km/h, located 295 km from Bahías de Huatulco.
- Wednesday, June 18, 12:00 p.m.: It will advance with winds of up to 150 km/h, 185 km south of Puerto Ángel.
- Thursday, June 19, 12:00 a.m.: It will intensify into a category 2 hurricane with sustained winds of 160 km/h (99 mph), just 75 km (47 mi) south of Lagunas de Chacahua, Oaxaca.
- Thursday, June 19, 6:00 AM: Hurricane will make landfall northwest of Punta Maldonado, Guerrero, retaining category 2 status.
- Friday, June 20, 12:00 AM: Hurricane will be downgraded to a tropical storm inland, 95 km (59 mi) northeast of Zihuatanejo.
- Saturday, June 21, 12:00 PM: Hurricane will dissipate as a remnant low pressure inland, 110 km (68 mi) northeast of Manzanillo, Colima.
