The heatwave that Morocco has been experiencing for the past few days has led to an increase in electricity consumption. This is expected to reach a new peak this Monday, June 30, surpassing the previous record of more than 7,600 megawatts (MW) recorded in mid-June 2025, according to a reliable source.
This heatwave is remarkable for its intensity, but above all, it is premature. Typically, record consumption is recorded towards the end of July, notes this energy expert.
The increase in demand for electrical energy is explained by the massive use of air conditioning in the tertiary and residential sectors and agricultural pumping for irrigation needs.
The last evening peak record was recorded on June 19, 2025, reaching 7,620 MW at 9:30 p.m., an increase of nearly 1,000 MW, or +15.5% compared to the same period last year.
